2D and 3D imaging of the metamorphic carbonates at Omalos plateau/polje, Crete, Greece by employing independent and joint inversion on resistivity and seismic data

open access: yesInternational Journal of Speleology, 2012
A geophysical survey carried out at Omalos plateau in Chania, Western Crete, Greece employed seismic as well as electrical tomography methods in order to image karstic structures and the metamorphic carbonates (Tripali unit and Plattenkalk group) which ...

Data‐driven analysis of the spatial dependence of grouting efficiency during tunnel excavation

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Prediction of grouting efficiency using machine learning is enhanced by adopting a training strategy that accounts for the grouting process across multiple rounds. Abstract Grouting with water–cement mixtures is the most widely used and cost‐effective method for managing excess water inflow during tunnel construction.

Using spaceborne SAR and ground-based measurements to identify spatial patterns in soil moisture and seasonal thaw timing in permafrost environments of Alaska

open access: yesFrontiers in Remote Sensing
Spatiotemporal patterns in soil moisture play a critical role in the near-surface energy balance in permafrost regions, yet soil moisture detection in periglacial environments is complicated by highly heterogeneous terrain conditions. We integrate ground-

Resonance‐induced restoration of rock permeability degraded by heavy components of crude oil

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Resonance‐induced changes occur in filtration properties of sedimentary rocks in crude paraffin oil flow under acoustic vibrations. Experimental data on (a) pressure drop; (b) permeability; (c) pressure at the rock inlet; and (d) pressure at the rock outlet are presented.

Rockburst prediction based on data preprocessing and hyperband‐RNN‐DNN

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A data preprocessing workflow is proposed to address challenges in rockburst data analysis. Coupled algorithms preprocess the data set, and hyperband optimization is used to enhance RNN performance. Results show that preprocessing improves accuracy, while dense layers enhance model stability and prediction performance.

Recommended reference figures for geophysics and geodesy [PDF]

open access: yes
Specific reference figures are recommended for consistent use in geophysics and geodesy. The selection of appropriate reference figure for geophysical studies suggests a relationship between the Antarctic negative gravity anomaly and the great shrinkage ...
