Geopotential measurements with synchronously linked optical lattice clocks

Nature Photonics, 2016
Real-time geopotential measurements with two synchronously linked optical lattice clocks are demonstrated. A height difference between the two clocks separated by 15 km is determined, with an uncertainty of 5 cm, by means of a gravitational redshift ...

Heat waves in Central Europe and tropospheric anomalies of temperature and geopotential heights

International Journal of Climatology, 2019
The aim of the article was to provide a detailed analysis of pressure conditions, employing the anomalies of geopotential heights, during the occurrence of heat waves in Central Europe, but also in the days preceding and following their occurrence.

Geopotential Calculations Optimisation [PDF]

open access: possible2020 International Conference Engineering and Telecommunication (En&T), 2020
The problem of the high complexity of calculating the series of spherical functions included in the expansion of the Earth's gravitational potential is considered. To solve this problem, an interpolation model is proposed, which makes it possible to substantially optimize the process of calculating the geopotential with insignificant losses in accuracy.

Geopotential measurement with a robust, transportable Ca+ optical clock

, 2020
We present a robust, transportable ${\mathrm{Ca}}^{+}$ optical clock, with a systematic uncertainty of $1.3\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}17}$ limited by the black-body radiation (BBR) field evaluation and an uptime rate of $g75 ...

On the Tidal Variation of the Geopotential

Celestial Mechanics & Dynamical Astronomy, 1993
In this paper analytical expressions are derived for the temporal variations of J 2 and J 22 due to the tides of the solid Earth, taking into accountonly the deformation of the mantle, and employing a procedure already used by the authors in their Hamiltonian theory of the Earth’s rotation, which obtain the necessary parameters in a direct way by ...

The accuracy of geopotential models

Planetary and Space Science, 1978
The accuracy of two recent geopotential models, GEM 7 and GEM 8, is evaluated and is found to be about 4.3 m with respect to the global geoid surface for GEM 7 and 3.9 m for GEM 8. The accuracies are root mean square values obtained by the use of 400 coefficients for GEM 7 and 706 coefficients for GEM 8.

Status of the geopotential

Reviews of Geophysics, 1983
Substantial progress has been made in modeling the geopotential field since the last reporting period (Anderle, 1979a). Models of the gravity potential show improvement across the entire gravitational spectrum with resolution down to 1° haIf‐wavelength.
