Patterns of Plio‐Pleistocene Ice Volume Variability Recorded by the Large‐Magnitude Explosive Eruptions From the Kamchatka‐Kurile Volcanic Arc

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 25, Issue 10, October 2024.
Abstract Marine fallout ash beds can provide continuous, time‐precise records of highly explosive arc volcanism that can be linked with the climate record. An evaluation of revised Plio‐Pleistocene (0–4 Myr) tephrostratigraphies from Ocean Drilling Program Sites 881, 882, and 884 confirms cyclicity of the Kamchatka‐Kurile arc volcanism and a marked ...

Soil development and ancient Maya land use in the tropical karst landscape: Case of Busiljá, Chiapas, México

open access: yesSoil Science Society of America Journal, Volume 88, Issue 5, Page 1561-1582, September/October 2024.
Abstract The soil mantle of the tropical karstic landscapes of Southern Mexico was shaped by specific processes of pedogenesis and long‐term human impacts of ancient Maya agriculture. To understand the interaction between natural and human‐induced soil‐forming processes in the calcareous mountains of Chiapas state, we studied soil toposequences around ...

Metals in coastal groundwater systems under anthropogenic pressure: a synthesis of behavior, drivers, and emerging threats

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters, Volume 9, Issue 4, Page 388-410, August 2024.
Abstract Submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) dynamically links land‐ and ocean‐derived chemical constituents, such as metals, in the coastal ocean. While many metals are sediment‐bound, changing environmental conditions, particularly along the coast, may lead to increased release of metals to their dissolved and more bioavailable form.

Surface water quality in Amazonian Floodplain Lakes, data set of the Lago Grande de Curuai Floodplain Lake, Pará‐Brazil

open access: yesGeoscience Data Journal, Volume 11, Issue 3, Page 252-266, July 2024.
The data set contains surface water quality parameters in a large Amazonian floodplain. The data were acquired through nine field campaigns organized between March 2013 and April 2017. A minimum of 25 fixed stations were visited during each campaign. Vertical profiles obtained by a multiparameter probe at each station are also available.

The abundant fraction of soil microbiomes regulates the rhizosphere function in crop wild progenitors

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 27, Issue 6, June 2024.
The rhizosphere influence on the soil microbiome and function of crop wild progenitors remains virtually unknown, despite its relevance to develop microbiome‐oriented tools in sustainable agriculture. Rhizosphere influence was higher for abundant taxa across the four microbial groups and had a positive influence on rhizosphere soil organic C and ...
