Remote sensing can reveal population dynamics of Antarctic penguin colonies. In this study, we analyze emperor penguin (Aptenodytes forsteri) guano stains in remote sensing imagery and discover colony presence predating known records for 18 colonies across Antarctica.

ABSTRACT Over the past few decades, the intensification of global warming has brought increased attention to urban thermal dynamics, particularly regarding Land Surface Temperature (LST) and the Urban Surface Heat Island (SUHI) effect. This study conducts a systematic literature review alongside a bibliometric analysis of 123 peer‐reviewed articles ...

A METHOD FOR LOCATION RECOMMENDATION VIA SKYLINE QUERY TOLERANT TO NOISED GEOREFERENCED DATA
This paper presents a method to perform a location recommendation based on multiple criteria allowing noised coordinates. More speciï¬ cally, the skyline query is adapted to handle those noises by modeling the errors of georeferenced points with an ...

ABSTRACT This study examines the interplay between climate change, violent conflict and forced migration in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), focusing on asylum flows to the European Union (EU). By integrating high‐resolution climate, conflict and socioeconomic data spanning 2000 to 2023, we develop a comprehensive empirical framework to ...

ABSTRACT Education is a cornerstone of sustainable development, yet large disparities in access persist across and within countries—particularly in Africa, where millions remain underserved. Among several factors influencing educational participation, physical accessibility to schools (in terms of travel time) is not comprehensively understood ...

Quantifying microhabitat selection of snowshoe hares using forest metrics from UAS‐based LiDAR
Identifying the spatial and temporal scale at which animals select resources is critical for predicting how populations respond to changes in the environment. The spatial distribution of fine‐scale resources (e.g. patches of dense vegetation) are often linked with critical life‐history requirements such as denning and feeding sites.

Assessing the role of spatial externalities in the survival of Italian innovative startups
Abstract The paper provides novel empirical evidence about the effects of spatial externalities on the survival of innovative startups in Italy. Using geocoded firm‐level data, we build micro‐geographic measures of specialization and diversity that are robust to the modifiable areal unit problem.

Estimating red deer Cervus elaphus population density using drones in a steep and rugged terrain
Precise and accurate information about population density, crucial for wildlife management, is difficult to obtain for elusive species living in dense forests or steep and inaccessible terrain. Using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), we developed a method for obtaining absolute population estimates of ungulates living in steep, rugged, and partly ...
