Accuracy analysis of direct georeferenced UAV images utilising low-cost navigation sensors [PDF]
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), also known as unmanned airborne systems (UAS) or remotely piloted airborne systems (RPAS), are an established platform for close range airborne photogrammetry. Compared to manned platforms, the acquisition of local remote

Bayesian Analysis of Spatial Generalized Linear Mixed Models with Laplace Random Fields [PDF]
Gaussian random field (GRF) models are widely used in spatial statistics to capture spatially correlated error. We investigate the results of replacing Gaussian processes with Laplace moving averages (LMAs) in spatial generalized linear mixed models (SGLMMs).

Abstract As climate change continues to influence global weather patterns, the frequency and severity of drought conditions are expected to increase, posing a significant challenge to crop production. In sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench), a key cereal crop, the stay‐green trait is of particular importance as a measure of how well a genotype can ...

Microeconomic and Geo-physical Data Integration for Agri-environmental Analysis, Georeferencing FADN Data: A Case Study in Italy [PDF]
The authors, inside a TAPAS action, have developed a methodology - based on the integration between FADN data with statistical, administrative and cartographic information - to improve the production of statistical data related to agricultural policies ...

ABSTRACT Pinniped abundance and demographic monitoring is the foundation of informed decisions about conservation, management and protection. However, current aerial and on the ground monitoring techniques are generally resource intensive, may suffer detection error and can present hazards to on‐site surveyors.

Taxing dissent: The impact of a social media tax in Uganda [PDF]
We examine the impact of a new tool for suppressing the expression of dissent---a daily tax on social media use. Using a synthetic control framework, we estimate that the tax reduced the number of georeferenced Twitter users in Uganda by 13 percent. The estimated treatment effects are larger for poorer and less frequent users.

A summer population of nonbreeding Antarctic fur seals arrives each year at the west Antarctic Peninsula, but remains poorly characterized amid the rapid climatic and ecological changes that are restructuring the region's environment and food web. We carried out a campaign of drone surveys to map the occurrences of Antarctic fur seals across a variety ...

LiDAR-based Registration against Georeferenced Models for Globally Consistent Allocentric Maps [PDF]
Modern unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are irreplaceable in search and rescue (SAR) missions to obtain a situational overview or provide closeups without endangering personnel. However, UAVs heavily rely on global navigation satellite system (GNSS) for localization which works well in open spaces, but the precision drastically degrades in the vicinity ...
