The ancient city of Karkemish is located on the western bank of the Euphrates near the frontier between Turkey and Syria. Georeferencing the site is a crucial phase for a good integration of the different available datasets, thus, topographic fieldwork was realized integrating classical surveys made by total station with GNSS measurements.

An introduction to the principles of unified georeferencing, which uses placename and geospatial referencing interchangeably across all types of information storage and retrieval systems. Georeferencing—relating information to geographic location—has been incorporated into today's information systems in various ways.

GeoVideoIndex: Indexing for georeferenced videos
Information Sciences, 2016Abstract Videos captured with spatiotemporal information such as time, location, and camera direction are called georeferenced videos. As recent video recording devices such as smartphones, action camcorders, and dashcams have built-in GPS sensors, they capture videos with spatiotemporal information, and such spatiotemporal information can be used ...

Global annotation on georeferenced photographs
Proceedings of the ACM International Conference on Image and Video Retrieval, 2009We present an efficient world-scale system for providing automatic annotation on collections of geo-referenced photos. As a user uploads a photograph a place of origin is estimated from visual features which the user can refine. Once the correct location is provided, tags are suggested based on geographic and image similarity retrieved from a large ...

Tag recommendation for georeferenced photos
Proceedings of the 3rd ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Location-Based Social Networks, 2011This paper presents methods for annotating georeferenced photos with descriptive tags, exploring the annotations for other georeferenced photos which are available at online repositories like Flickr. Specifically, by using the geospatial coordinates associated to the photo which we want to annotate, we start by collecting the photos from an online ...
