Behavioral responses of black bears to human presence and infrastructure in Yosemite National Park

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Using GPS collar data from black bears in Yosemite National Park, we examined how bear spatiotemporal activity in relation to human development shifted during the COVID‐19 park closure in 2020. In the absence of visitors, bears maintained consistent landscape‐scale space use but altered fine‐scale spatial and temporal behaviors.

Assessing the Feasibility and Acceptability of a Bespoke Large Language Model Pipeline to Extract Data From Different Study Designs for Public Health Evidence Reviews

open access: yesCochrane Evidence Synthesis and Methods
Introduction Data extraction is a critical but resource‐intensive step of the evidence review process. Whilst there is evidence that artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) can improve the efficiency of data extraction from ...

Persistent magnetic resonance imaging‐derived static anterior tibial translation after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction is associated with elevated cartilage T2 relaxation times but not serum biomarkers

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Persistent, static anterior tibial translation (sATT) alterations following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) may influence cartilage health. T2 relaxation times and serum biomarkers of cartilage degradation/bone resorption provide insight into osteoarthritis development.

Estimating Soil Compaction Risk at Regional Scales Using Meteorological Data and Soil Spectroscopy

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil compaction is a significant form of soil degradation in Europe, reducing agricultural productivity, limiting carbon sequestration and increasing greenhouse gases emissions. In response, the forthcoming European Union Soil Monitoring and Resilience Law requires spatial assessment of topsoil and subsoil compaction risk at district, that is,

A Field Guide for Soil Erosion Risk Assessment in Olive Orchards Across Mediterranean Conditions for End‐Users and Stakeholders

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil erosion control poses a crucial challenge to the sustainability of Mediterranean olive groves. To facilitate field‐level decision‐making, we have developed a field guide oriented to use in any type of olive orchard across the Mediterranean.

Individual movement modeling expands the power of migratory species observations: North Atlantic right whale case study

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Understanding a population's distribution depends on observing the presence and movement of individuals throughout their range. For highly mobile marine species, these observations typically rely on high effort monitoring programs. Tracking enough individuals to understand trends in movement behavior is not always logistically feasible, and ...
