Development of an Ontology-Based Framework to Enhance Geospatial Data Discovery and Selection in Geoportals for Natural-Hazard Early Warning Systems

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information
Discovering and selecting relevant geospatial datasets from heterogeneous sources remains difficult in conventional geoportals, where keyword-based search often fails to capture thematic relationships or user intent.

Detecting peat‐like behaviour areas using European Ground Motion Service data

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study presents a scalable approach for detecting peat‐like behaviour areas (PBAs) using open‐access InSAR time series from the European Ground Motion Service. The method integrates unsupervised principal component analysis (PCA) and k‐means clustering to complement optical mapping and reveal peat‐like dynamics, supporting improved peatland ...

Eureka! Dublin Core based metadata supports the Archimedes Palimpsest Manuscript Imaging Program

open access: yes, 2006
Digital imaging of the Archimedes Palimpsest offers a complex set of metadata challenges. The thousand-year-old manuscript contains the earliest known copies of some of Archimedes unique mathematical works, overwritten with a book of prayer.

Frugivore Declines Across Taxa Affect Forest Biomass

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, Volume 1, Issue 2, June 2026.
We examined how frugivore declines affect aboveground biomass in 260 1‐ha forest plots across Gabon using imputed frugivory networks between 122 frugivores and 99,349 trees. Simulated frugivore declines across Gabon tended to reduce aboveground biomass, with effects varying by taxon and geography.

Demonstration, validation, and application of hyperspectral microscopy for the collection of cyanobacterial spectral signatures

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, Volume 24, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Cyanobacterial and other algal blooms are an environmental concern in waterbodies worldwide. While these blooms are a nuisance for recreational activities, they can also be harmful to human and wildlife health when the algae produce and release toxins.

Strategic Roadmap for Addressing Microplastic Pollution in the Global South: Bridging Monitoring Gaps, Harmonizing Methods, and Building Analytical Capacity

open access: yesEnvironmental Quality Management, Volume 35, Issue 4, Summer 2026.
ABSTRACT Microplastic (MP) pollution represents a growing environmental challenge, especially in tropical and subtropical coastal regions of the Global South, where methodological fragmentation, funding discontinuity, and dependence on external analytical infrastructure limit the production of comparable data and the formulation of evidence‐based ...
