Hydraulic conductivity of a dense prehydrated GCL: impact of free swell and swelling pressure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Exposure to liquids with high electrolyte concentrations or high cation valence present in landfill leachates can cause significant increases in hydraulic conductivity of clays due to a reduction in the thickness of the double layer.

Macro–Microscopic Mechanical Study of Clay–Structure Interface Shear Behavior Using Direct Shear Testing and DEM Simulation

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Understanding the interface shear behavior between clay and structures is crucial in geotechnical engineering. The mechanism of the roughness effect in the shear process between the clay and structures was studied to reveal the macroscopic and microscopic interface shear behavior.

Slope Stability Prediction Utilizing a Random Forest Model Optimized by Particle Swarm Optimization

open access: yesGeofluids, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
In engineering practice, the accuracy of slope stability assessment significantly influences personal and property safety; therefore, accurate prediction of slope stability is of critical importance. Because of the strong nonlinear prediction capacity of machine learning, a particle swarm optimization–based random forest (PSO‐RF) algorithm model was ...

Artificial ground reflector size and position effects on energy yield and economics of single‐axis‐tracked bifacial photovoltaics

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, Volume 32, Issue 10, Page 675-686, October 2024.
Artificial ground reflectors were studied through modeling and field experiments for bifacial single‐axis‐tracked photovoltaic systems. Fielded reflectors increased daily energy yield up to 6.2%. Modeled reflectors increased irradiance by 1.9–8.6% and energy yield by 0.9–4.5% annually after considering clipping.

Influence of Strain Rate on Tensile Strength of Woven Geotextile in the Selected Range of Temperature

open access: yesStudia Geotechnica et Mechanica, 2015
Investigation of geosynthetics behaviour has been carried out for many years. Before using geosynthetics in practice, the standard laboratory tests had been carried out to determine basic mechanical parameters. In order to examine the tensile strength of
