The area considered belongs to northern Italy and corresponds to the Northern Apennine and Po Plain sectors included within the administrative district of Modena. In this area the width of the Apennine chain from crest to plain is about 45 km, with altitudes ranging from 2,000 m above sea level along the main watershed to 150 m at the foot of the hills.

Abstract There has been considerable discussion on the role of engineering geologists in reducing geotechnical risk both internationally and in Hong Kong. This paper discusses the problems facing the engineering geological profession by examining the current approach to natural landslide assessments in Hong Kong.

Application of Probabilistic Approaches In Geotechnical Engineering and Engineering Geology
1994Typical geotechnical and engineering geology problems such as performance prediction of jointed rock slopes, tunnel cost and time prediction and landslide assessment and mitigation are used to illustrate the effect of uncertainties and how to handle them with probabilistic methods.

Coseismic surface ruptures during desctructive earthquakes (1999 Kocaeli–Duzce, Turkey and 1999 Chi-Chi, Taiwan) have caused devastating effects on buildings and infrastructures. Surface rupture remains a complicated phenomenon involving variable movements along near surface traces of both primary and secondary faults.

The paper deals with the geomorphological, stratigraphic, geotechnical and stability characteristics of the terraced slopes in the Amalfi-Ravello area (23 km2); the main aim is to evaluate the safety factors of the terrace – dry masonry wall system and to identify the main causes which could cause the collapse.

The development of a reliable subsoil model is crucial to optimize the results of the advanced (3 level) seismic microzonation. The definition of the model needs the contribution of distinct scientific skills (geologists, geophysicists, geotechnical engineers), that should interact, during the entire zonation process, to solve and reduce the complexity

This dataset contains 1,996 sets of test data, obtained from 293 rock and soil samples collected from 14 engineering boreholes drilled in Luhuatai, Yinchuan Basin, in 2016. The test items include the shear strength, modulus of compressibility and grain composition of the soil mass. The exposed strata in Luhuatai is predominantly Quaternary.
