The size and polydispersity of silica nanoparticles under simulated hot spring conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The nucleation and growth of silica nanoparticles in supersaturated geothermal waters was simulated using a flow-through geothermal simulator system. The effect of silica concentration ([SiO2]), ionic strength (IS), temperature (T) and organic additives ...

A Selection Method for Power Generation Plants Used for Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS)

open access: yesEnergies, 2016
As a promising and advanced technology, enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) can be used to generate electricity using deep geothermal energy. In order to better utilize the EGS to produce electricity, power cycles’ selection maps are generated for people ...

Geothermal probabilistic cost study [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
A tool is presented to quantify the risks of geothermal projects, the Geothermal Probabilistic Cost Model (GPCM). The GPCM model was used to evaluate a geothermal reservoir for a binary-cycle electric plant at Heber, California.

A multicomponent geothermometer for high-temperature basalt settings

open access: yesGeothermal Energy, 2020
For successful geothermal reservoir exploration, accurate temperature estimation is essential. Since reservoir temperature estimation frequently involves high uncertainties when using conventional solute geothermometers, a new statistical approach is ...

Hydrothermal Numerical Simulation of Injection Operations at United Downs, Cornwall, UK

open access: yesGeosciences, 2022
The United Downs Deep Geothermal Project (UDDGP) is designed to utilize a presumably permeable steep dipping fault damage zone (constituting the hydrothermal reservoir in a very low permeability granitic host rock) for fluid circulation and heat ...

Numerical Investigation of Seepage and Heat Transfer in Rocks with Various Fracture Patterns for Geothermal Energy Extraction

open access: yesGeofluids, 2022
Unraveling the seepage and heat transfer coupled process between the working fluid and the fractured rocks in geothermal reservoir is of great significance to the exploitation and utilization of geothermal resources. In this study, based on the numerical

Grain Boundary Space Charge Engineering of Solid Oxide Electrolytes: Model Thin Film Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates unprecedented control of grain boundary electrical properties in solid electrolytes. Selective diffusion of cations through grain boundaries in thin films enables 12 orders of magnitude variation in ionic resistance, proving that systematic chemical modification of grain boundary electrical properties is feasible.

Fully hydro-mechanical coupled Plug-in (SUB+) in FEFLOW for analysis of land subsidence due to groundwater extraction

open access: yesSoftwareX, 2019
Extensive groundwater extraction leads to the drawdown of the groundwater table, which can increase the stress of soils and lead to land subsidence. Analyses of land subsidence generally require numerical models based on the poroelasticity theory. FEFLOW

Colloid‐Mediated Synthesis of Hierarchically Porous Amorphous Catalyst for Durable Industrial‐Scale Water Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A colloid‐mediated electroless plating (CMEP) strategy is proposed to fabricate hierarchically porous, amorphous Fe‐doped NiWB electrocatalysts under ambient conditions. The in situ formation of Fe‐W‐O colloidal species guides the formation of robust, porous catalyst layers with excellent mass transfer and durability, sustaining 500 mA cm−2 for 2000 h,
