Role of Epoxide Functionalization of Amines for Development of Direct Air Capture Sorbents with High Cyclic Working Capacity at Low Desorption Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Appropriate butylene oxide (BO) functionalization of amines (polyethyleneimine (PEI1200 and PEI300) and tris(2‐aminoethyl)amine (TREN)) enables excellent cyclic working capacities (WCcyclic) at low desorption temperatures (40−70°C). Notably, 0.30BO‐PEI300‐SY and 0.54BO‐TREN‐SY show the highest WCcyclic at 45 and 40°C, respectively.

First field application of temperature sensor modules for groundwater flow detection near borehole heat exchanger

open access: yesGeothermal Energy, 2019
Here, we present the first application of a temperature sensor module (TSM) for deducing groundwater flow velocity and direction at borehole heat exchangers (BHEs). The TSM maps the horizontal temperature distribution around a BHE.

Geothermal exploration in a sedimentary basin: new continuous temperature data and physical rock properties from northern Oman

open access: yesGeothermal Energy, 2018
The lateral and vertical temperature distribution in Oman is so far only poorly understood, particularly in the area between Muscat and the Batinah coast, which is the area of this study and which is composed of Cenozoic sediments developed as part of a ...

Rare‐Earth Yttrium Doping Advances High‐Performance AgSbTe2 Thermoelectrics

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Y‐doped AgSbTe2 achieves band and microstructure co‐optimization, with coherent Y‐Ag2Te interfaces enhancing phonon scattering and reducing lattice thermal conductivity to 0.26 W m−1 K−1. Combined with valence‐band broadening and increased carrier concentration, this yields ZT ≈ 2 at 623 K, average ZT = 1.5, and 7.3 % conversion efficiency of a single ...

Geothermal energy

open access: yes, 2013
In the search for new energy resources, scientists have discovered ways to use the Earth itself as a valuable source of power. Geothermal power plants use the Earth’s natural underground heat to provide clean, renewable energy. Preliminary studies for an integrated assessment of the hydrothermal potential of the Pechelbronn Group in the northern Upper Rhine Graben [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Geosciences, 2018
The northern Upper Rhine Graben is due to its tectonic setting and the positive geothermal anomaly a key region for geothermal heat and power production in Europe. In this area the Upper Eocene to Lower Oligocene Pechelbronn Group reaches depths of up

Hill of Banchory Geothermal Energy Project Feasibility Study Report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This feasibility study explored the potential for a deep geothermal heat project at Hill of Banchory, Aberdeenshire. The geology of the Hill of Fare, to the north of Banchory, gives cause to believe it has good geothermal potential, while the Hill of ...

Assessment of the resource base for engineered geothermal systems in Great Britain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
An assessment of the engineered geothermal system (EGS) resource base that might be available for the generation of electricity for Great Britain has been undertaken by adopting a globally self-consistent protocol that if universally adopted, would ...
