Flow channelling in a single fracture induced by shear displacement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The effect on the transport properties of fractures of a relative shear displacement $\vec u$ of rough walls with complementary self-affine surfaces has been studied experimentally and numerically. The shear displacement $\vec u$ induces an anisotropy of

Grain Boundary Space Charge Engineering of Solid Oxide Electrolytes: Model Thin Film Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates unprecedented control of grain boundary electrical properties in solid electrolytes. Selective diffusion of cations through grain boundaries in thin films enables 12 orders of magnitude variation in ionic resistance, proving that systematic chemical modification of grain boundary electrical properties is feasible.

Geothermal gradients in British lake sediments [PDF]

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, 1977
Temperatures have been measured in the water and sediments of Loch Ness and Windermere to investigate the possibility of determining the geothermal heat flow through the bottom of deep British lakes. The accuracy is limited by corrections for annual and long term variations in bottom water temperatures. In Loch Ness (max depth 232 m) the annual ...

Insights into Controlling Factors of Pore Structure and Hydraulic Properties of Broken Rock Mass in a Geothermal Reservoir

open access: yesLithosphere, 2022
The filled broken rock mass in a geothermal reservoir under high-pressure work fluid and overburden stress is of great significance to the efficient operation of the geothermal system. The pore structure and hydraulic properties of the broken rock mass

Colloid‐Mediated Synthesis of Hierarchically Porous Amorphous Catalyst for Durable Industrial‐Scale Water Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A colloid‐mediated electroless plating (CMEP) strategy is proposed to fabricate hierarchically porous, amorphous Fe‐doped NiWB electrocatalysts under ambient conditions. The in situ formation of Fe‐W‐O colloidal species guides the formation of robust, porous catalyst layers with excellent mass transfer and durability, sustaining 500 mA cm−2 for 2000 h,

Update Heat Flow Density Map for Portugal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
New thermal conductivity, heat production and temperature data obtained in Portugal were used to produce a new heat flow density map. Heat flow density values in Portugal vary between 42 and 115 mW/m2 and allow the extrapolation of temperatures to depths
