Thermal‐induced fracture evolution and acoustic signature of Beishan granite: Insights into tensile strength of barrier system for high‐level radioactive waste disposal

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The tensile strength of granite, a proposed host for nuclear waste, degrades severely above 400°C. We link this to specific microcracking patterns captured by acoustic emission, establishing a scientific basis for assessing repository safety under thermal load.

Advances in vital‐sign prediction and early‐warning models for underground coal mine workers integrating environmental factors

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This review synthesizes advances in predicting miners' vital signs by integrating environmental monitoring (dust, temperature, and gas) with physiological data. It highlights multi‐source data fusion techniques and early‐warning models for enhanced occupational safety in underground coal mines.

Carbon emission assessment of tunnel infrastructures: From construction to operation

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study develops a lifecycle carbon accounting framework for tunnel infrastructures, covering design, construction, operation, maintenance, and dismantling. Applied to a subsea tunnel case, the framework reveals the carbon emission distribution among four typical tunnel types and highlights potential carbon offset methods for low‐carbon tunnel ...

Thermodynamic classification of vapor and liquid dominated reservoir and fluid geochemical parameter calculations

open access: yesGeofísica Internacional, 1997
A thermodynamic definition is presented to classify vapor and liquid-dominated geothermal reservoirs. The vapor-dom¬inated reservoir has a specific volume of fluid (i.e.

The Earth-Coupled or Geothermal Heat Pump Air Conditioning System [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
As utility costs have risen despite political campaign promises and energy conserving measures implemented by the utility companies such as alternative fuel use (coal and nuclear), co-generation, etc., homeowners have begun to search for effective ...

Rock mechanical properties under reconstructed deep in situ thermo–hydro–mechanical conditions: Implications for CO₂‐related injection scenarios

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract illustrates a reconstructed in situ thermo‐hydro‐mechanical (THM) framework in which porosity serves as the central variable linking stress, pore pressure, and temperature to evolving mechanical properties of rocks. Under burial conditions, in situ stress, pore pressure, and temperature jointly govern volumetric strain and ...
