Parasitic flowering plant collections embody the extended specimen

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 2, Page 319-331, February 2023., 2023
Abstract The widespread digitization of natural history collections, combined with novel tools and approaches is revolutionizing biodiversity science. The ‘extended specimen’ concept advocates a more holistic approach in which a specimen is framed as a diverse stream of interconnected data.

Hotspots in the grid: Avian sensitivity and vulnerability to collision risk from energy infrastructure interactions in Europe and North Africa

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 59, Issue 6, Page 1496-1512, June 2022., 2022
We identify the areas of Europe and North Africa that are most sensitive for the specific populations of birds for which sufficient GPS tracking data at high spatial resolution were available. We also map vulnerability hotspots where mitigation at existing EI should be prioritised to reduce collision risks.

Diagnostic approach to paediatric movement disorders: a clinical practice guide

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, Volume 63, Issue 3, Page 252-258, March 2021., 2021
Paediatric movement disorders (PMDs) comprise a large group of disorders (tics, myoclonus, tremor, dystonia, chorea, Parkinsonism, ataxia), often with mixed phenotypes. Determination of the underlying aetiology can be difficult given the broad differential diagnosis and the complexity of the genotype–phenotype relationships.

Length–weight and otolith size to standard length relationships in 12 species of Southern Ocean Myctophidae: A tool for predator diet studies

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ichthyology, Volume 37, Issue 1, Page 140-144, February 2021., 2021
Abstract Fish morphometric relationships are key tools for fisheries science and studies of food web dynamics and predator foraging behaviour, but parameterisations are limited for Southern Ocean myctophids (Family Myctophidae). New standard length (LS) to total mass (MT) relationships are therefore described for the 12 biomass‐dominant myctophid fish ...

Training future generations to deliver evidence‐based conservation and ecosystem management

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 2, Issue 1, January–March 2021., 2021
To be effective, the next generation of conservation practitioners and managers need to be critical thinkers and understand how to make evidence‐based decisions. As educators, we should make these a core part of what we teach to prepare our students to make an effective contribution to conservation practice.

A call to improve understanding of Undetectable equals Untransmittable (U = U) in Brazil: a web‐based survey

open access: yesJournal of the International AIDS Society, Volume 23, Issue 11, November 2020., 2020
Abstract Introduction Currently, the slogan “Undetectable = Untransmittable” (U = U), launched to disseminate scientific evidence on how people living with HIV (PLHIV) on antiretroviral treatment with suppressed viral load cannot transmit HIV to their sexual partners, is still challenged by individuals with differential acceptance across populations ...
