The African gerbils of the genus Tatera are widespread and abundant throughout sub-Saharan Africa. There is still today a certain controversy concerning the taxonomy of these rodents and very few attempts have been made to assess their systematic relationships. The present paper introduces findings based on the partial sequences of cytochrome b (495 bp)

The corona of the first and the second cheek teeth of young specimen in the Meriones, Rhombomys, Psammomys genera and the corona of the upper third cheek teeth in the Rhombomys genus are represented by nonfused laminas. Long axes of laminas and a tooth often form an acute angle and the points of the laminas confluence are displaced externally.

Sociální chování pískomilů (Gerbillinae)
The gerbils of the subfamily Gerbillinae represent an important taxon of rodents that includes a wide range of species inhabiting arid regions of the Old World. These species exhibit remarkable inter- and intraspecific variation in social behaviour, which is reflected in their mating systems, aggressive and territorial behaviour.openaire +1 more source
