Molecular phylogenetics of the genus Gerbillus (Rodentia, Gerbillinae): Implications for systematics, taxonomy and chromosomal evolution

Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2010
Although gerbils forms an important component of the mammalian fauna of arid and semi-arid area, the taxonomic and phylogenetic relationship within the species of the genus Gerbillus are still ambiguous. The present paper introduces findings based on the whole cytochrome b (1140 bp) mitochondrial genes of seven species (Gerbillus campestris, G ...

Behavioural Divergence in Allopatric and Sympatric Gerbil Species (Rodentia: Gerbillinae)

Ethology, 1993
AbstractSouthern African gerbils comprise 3 genera, each genus represented by morphologically‐ and ecologically‐similar species. All species are monomorphic, with social systems varying from asocial (Desmodillus auricularis) to colonial (Tatera species). This study compares the behaviour patterns of an allopatric species, T. afra, 2 sympatric species, T.

The Shape of a Gerbillus pyramidum (Rodentia: Gerbillinae) Isocline: An Experimental Field Study [PDF]

open access: closedOikos, 1994
Abramsky et al. developed a new technique to measure isoclines in the field. The method is based on the single-species habitat selection theory of Fretwell. Using short term (3-4 wk) and long term (1-yr) experiments, they tested it by measuring the isocline of Gerbillus allenbyi competing with G. pyramidum.

Ultrasonic Vocalizations of Six Taxa of Southern African Gerbils (Rodentia: Gerbillinae)

Ethology, 1991
AbstractUltrasonic calling during male‐female encounters between individuals of the same species was investigated in six taxa of southern African gerbils, namely Tatera brantsii, Gerbillurus paeba paeba, G. p. cxilis, G. tytonis, G. setzeri, and G. vallinus.

Divergence in acoustic repertoire of sympatric and allopatric gerbil species (Rodentia: Gerbillinae)

Mammalia, 1994
