Determination of Meriones Species (Rodentia, Gerbillinae) by RAPD-PCR [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Animal Biosystematics, 2006
Meriones crassus, Meriones persicus, and Meriones libycus from different areas of Khorasan provinces and Yazd province were studied by use of Random Amplified DNA polymorphism (RAPD) technique. DNA samples were analyzed by use of nine primers.

Sexual size dimorphism of group-living Mongolian gerbils Meriones unguicutalus (Muridae: Gerbillinae) [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Zoological Journal, 2017
Polygynous mammals often have male-biased sexual size dimorphism due to male–male competition for mates. However, fecundity selection may enlarge female body size.

Natural Intestinal Protozoa in Rodents (Rodentia: Gerbillinae, Murinae, Cricetinae) in Northwestern Iran

open access: yesIranian Journal of Parasitology, 2017
Background: Majority of parasitic infections in rodents have zoonotic importance. This study aimed to determine the frequency and intensity of intestinal protozoa infections of rodents including Meriones persicus, Mus musculus and, Cricetulus migratorius.

Calomyscid Rodents (Rodentia: Calomyscidae) as a Potential Reservoir of Zoonotic Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in a Mountainous Residential Area in the Plateau of Iran: Inferring from Molecular Data of kDNA and ITS2 Genes of Leishmania Major

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Medicine, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL), a neglected tropical disease, is an important health problem in Fars Province, southern Iran. Fars, the fourth most populous Province in Iran, is the center of both anthroponotic and zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis (ZCL). Rodents, the reservoir of Leishmania major, play an important role in transmitting ZCL.

Biomechanical adaptations for burrowing in the incisor enamel microstructure of Geomyidae and Heteromyidae (Rodentia: Geomyoidea)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 11, Issue 14, Page 9447-9459, July 2021., 2021
Incisors of fossil and extant Geomyidae (pocket gophers) and Heteromyidae (pocket mice, spiny pocket mice, kangaroo mice, kangaroo rats) show enamel with built‐in failure prevention related to chisel‐tooth digging. This distinctive microstructure character strengthens the joint phylogenetic origin of these North American rodents because it is absent in

Monitoring of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection in mustelids

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 19, Issue 3, March 2021., 2021
Abstract American mink and ferret are highly susceptible to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2), but no information is available for other mustelid species. SARS‐CoV‐2 spreads very efficiently within mink farms once introduced, by direct and indirect contact, high within‐farm animal density increases the chance for transmission.

Effect of Bushen Huoxue Prescription on Cognitive Dysfunction of KK‐Ay Type 2 Diabetic Mice

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Diabetic cognitive impairment is one of the common complications of type 2 diabetes, which can cause neurological and microvascular damage in the brain. Bushen Huoxue prescription (BSHX), a compound Chinese medicine, has been used clinically to treat diabetes‐induced cognitive impairment. However, its underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this study,

Life history and habitat do not mediate temporal changes in body size due to climate warming in rodents [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2020
Temporal changes in body size have been documented in a number of vertebrate species, with different contested drivers being suggested to explain these changes.

Epidemiological aspects of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Southwest of Iran [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of One Health, 2019
Background and Aim: Zoonotic rodents (Rodentia: Muridae: Gerbillinae) and Phlebotominae sand flies are the major reservoir hosts and vectors of Leishmania major causing zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis, respectively.
