Speed of Germination as a Criterion of Seed Vigor in Soybeans1
Crop Science, 1979The effect of germination speed on the development and seed yield of soybean [Glyclne max(L.) Merr.] plants was investigated. Seedlings from graded ‘Clark’ soybean seeds were geminated in individual turf pots and grouped according to speed of germination.

Why wait? Trait and habitat correlates of variation in germination speed among Kalahari annuals
Oecologia, 2009The longer soil has to stay moist to allow germination the more likely that seedlings experience favourable moisture conditions. Since theory predicts that fitness variance-reducing traits will be negatively correlated, we tested the hypothesis that time to germination is negatively correlated with the ability of radicle growth to keep up with the ...

The breakdown of hard seed, germination and establishment of heat-treated and untreated seed was compared for Stylosanthes humilis, S. hamata cv. Verano and S. scabra cv. Fitzroy at Katherine, N.T. Heat treatment significantly increased yield and seedling establishment for S. hamata and S, scabra.

Changes in viability and germination speed of primed sugar beet seed during storage
Proceedings of 36th Biennial Meeting, 2011It is generally accepted that priming causes some degree of loss of shelf life. Germains priming methods do not cause a reduction in viability after storage for 18 months at 20°C and 55% RH, which is considered to represent 1-year carryover of seed held according to conventional good practice.

INFLUENCE OF SEASON ON THE RATE OF IMBIBITION AND SPEED OF GERMINATION OF SEEDS OF CHILLI
Madras Agricultural Journal, 1933The differences in the rate of imbibition was more in larger seeds from rabi than kharif seasons. The difference in the rate of imbibition between grades was comparatively more in kharif season than rabi. In both the seasons, seeds from earlier pickings recorded higher rate of imbibition than those from later pickings.

Speed of Germination Affects Diameter at Lifting of Nursery-Grown Loblolly Pine Seedlings
Southern Journal of Applied Forestry, 1985Abstract Speed of germination affects seedling quantity and quality. This study investigated the effect of germination speed on loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) seedling diameter at lifting. Studies were installed at three forest nurseries in Alabama to test the effects of stratification treatments on speed of germination and of seedling ...

Selection for fast and slow germination in Altai wild ryegrass (Elymus angustus Trin.) through three cycles of selection resulted in significant differences in the speed of germination index between the two populations. The fast germinating population established significantly better in a field test than the slow germinating population.

Effect of Tray Type and Tray Covering on Wicking Speed, Germination, and Spiral Rooting of Tobacco
2012Poor tray wicking and spiral rooting continue to be recurring concerns in tobacco float systems. Poor wicking of trays can usually be attributed to old media or media that was improperly stored for extended periods of time. Tray design may also influence speed of wicking.

Genotypic Variation and Wilting Speed Affect Soybean (Glycine max) Germination and Growth
Discovery: The Student Journal of Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life SciencesSoybean (Glycine max) is one of the most important agricultural crops in the world due to its value as a major source of protein and oilseed production. Soybean is extremely sensitive to drought and experiences severe reductions in yield when there is a reduction in water availability.
