Effect of cold stratification on seed germination in Solidago × niederederi (Asteraceae) and its parental species [PDF]
In this study, we investigated the influence of cold stratification on seed germination in S. × niederederi, a hybrid between the North American S. canadensis and the European S. virgaurea, using fruit samples collected in 2016 in Poland.

Salinity on the germination of seed and index of germination speed of three ornamental species
Salinity is a factor that interferes on seed germination in most species. The objective of this work was to study the effects of different concentrations of NaCl on the emergence and vigor of Petunia x hybrida hort. Vilm E. ex., Torenia fournieri Lind and Tagetes patula L. seedlings. The experimental design was entirely randomized with five treatments (

Germination and field emergence in osmotic and solid matrix priming in onion (Allium cepa)
Solid matrix priming for 24 hr significantly improved seed germination (81.6%) as compared to 12 hr, 36 hr or 48 hr duration. A priming duration of 24 hr gave maximum speed of germination (16.95) while priming duration of 48 hr gave minimum value for ...

Effect of methanol on germination characteristics of bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L. cv. Sadry) under drought stress condition [PDF]
In order to evaluate the effects of methanol on germination percentage, germination speed index, plumule and radicle length, plumule and radicle dry weigh, vigor index and consumed endosperm of bean in condition of water deficit, a factorial experiment ...

Cold Radiofrequency Plasma Treatment Modifies Wettability and Germination Speed of Plant Seeds [PDF]
We report the possibility to modify the wetting properties of the surfaces of a diversity of seeds including: lentils (Lens culinaris), beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) and wheat (Triticum, species C9) by cold radiofrequency air plasma treatment. Air plasma treatment leads to the dramatic decrease in the apparent contact angle.

Smoke and heat accelerate and increase germination in fire‐prone temperate grassy ecosystems
Fire increases seedling recruitment by reducing competition for space and resources. As such, many species in fire‐prone ecosystems germinate in response to fire cues such as smoke and heat.

A fast ethanol assay to detect seed deterioration [PDF]
The most common way to test seed quality is to use a simple and reliable but time- and space-consuming germination test. In this paper we present a fast and simple method to analyse cabbage seed deterioration by measuring ethanol production from ...

In Vitro Seed Germination of Kalmia latifolia L. Hybrids: A Means for Improving Germination and Speeding Up Breeding Cycle [PDF]
Kalmia latifolia L. (mountain laurel), a member of Ericaceae , is a beautiful ornamental shrub native to the eastern United States. The plant is not common in the southeastern United States landscapes because of the limited heat tolerance of most commercial cultivars ...
