Review of the family Veliidae in Romania (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Gerromorpha)

A critical review of the family Veliidae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Gerromorpha) in Romania is provided. In total, two genera and eight species (Microvelia Westwood, 1834—3 species, Velia Latreille, 1804—5 species) are known from the country. Microvelia buenoi Drake, 1920 and Velia serbica Tamanini, 1951 are recorded for the first time from Romania.

A NEW GENUS OF TERRESTRIAL MESOVELIIDAE FROM THE SEYCHELLES (HEMIPTERA: GERROMORPHA)

Abstract A new genus of Mesoveliidae, Seychellovelia, with a single included species, S. hygrobia n. sp., is described from the islands of Silhouette and Mahe in the granitic Seychelles. This new taxon is compared to other mesoveliid genera, and its key morphological characters illustrated.

Gerromorphan species assemblages in southern Illinois were studied at 86 sites representing eleven habitat types (pond, lake, swamp, temporary pool, large river, small river, muddy eutrophic permanent stream, clear rocky permanent stream, clear rocky temporary stream, roadside ditch, and spring) from mid-May 1988 through late July 1991.

Nomenclatural issues in Rhagovelia Mayr (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Gerromorpha: Veliidae)

Nieser & Polhemus (1999) described four species of Rhagovelia (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Gerromorpha: Veliidae) from the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil: Rhagovelia ochroischion, R. sbolos, R. trianguloides, and R. turmalis. Nevertheless, these same nomina were used in an identification key by Nieser & Melo (1997).

Gerromorpha and Leptopodomorpha (Insecta : Heteroptera) fauna of Southwest Anatolia

This study was based on 1627 specimens belonging to 12 species and 1 subspecies of 8 genera in 7 families of the infraorders Gerromorpha and Leptopodomorpha of the order Heteroptera. The specimens were collected from Southwest Anatolia (provinces Antalya, Burdur, Isparta, Denizli, Aydin, and Mugla) during 2000-2002.
