The red crab Chaceon notialis is one of the three deep-sea crab species currently exploited in Brazil. The red crab fishery started in 1998 with foreign vessels that, as of 2000, have been extensively moni-tored by observers and tracked by satellite.

The goal of this work was to elaborate on reproductive knowledge of the deep-sea red crab, Chaceon affinis, off the Canary Islands by providing information regarding its egg development and fecundity. Fosilni les Carapoxylon iz spodnjemiocenskih plasti pri Komendi [PDF]
Pieces of fossil wood were discovered near Komenda from the Lower Miocene beds. According to microscopic wood anatomy it corresponds to the family Meliaceae and to the genus Carapoxylon. This is the first identification of Miocene hardwood from Slovenia.
