Outbreak of poisoning by sodium hydrogen methylarsonate (MSMA)—an arsenic‐based herbicide—in horses in Brazil

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Arsenic poisoning in horses is rarely reported in the literature. However, arsenic compounds can be present in rodenticides, pesticides, and herbicides, representing a potential source of accidental exposure for horses. Objective To describe the epidemiological, clinical, and laboratory findings from a herd of 31 horses exposed to ...

Changes in back fat thickness during late gestation predict colostrum yield in sows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Directing protein and energy sources towards lactation is crucial to optimise milk production in sows but how this influences colostrum yield (CY) remains unknown.

Unravelling the Genetic Mechanisms of Litter Traits in a Maternal Line of Pigs

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Reproductive traits related to litter size are the main indicators of reproductive efficiency in pig production and are continuously evaluated for the selection of maternal lines. Several environmental and genetic factors are involved with the development of these traits.

Are We Willing to Change? A Feminist Agenda for the Study of Men in Families

open access: yesJournal of Family Theory &Review, EarlyView.

The effect of post-farrowing ketoprofen on sow feed intake, nursing behaviour and piglet performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Farrowing is a critical time for sows and piglets. Poor post-farrowing sow recovery, and piglet mortality represent a welfare concern, as well as an economic loss to the pig industry.

Effect of parity and stage of gestation on growth and feed efficiency of gestating sows [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science, 2017
The effects of parity and stage of gestation on female growth criteria, and reproductive performance were evaluated on a commercial sow farm. A total of 712 females (Camborough, PIC, Hendersonville, TN) were group-housed and individually fed with electronic sow feeders. Gilts (parity 1) and sows were offered 2.0 and 2.26 kg of feed per day (4.7 and 5.3

Saccharomyces cerevisiae Yeast‐Based Supplement and Breast Milk Supply: A Randomised Placebo‐Controlled Trial

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, EarlyView.
Maternal brewer's yeast supplementation did not change the milk oligosaccharide (HMO) concentration, but more mothers felt their milk supply was increased, and fewer reported formula use by 6 months postpartum compared to those taking the placebo. This suggests the supplement may support breastfeeding, warranting further investigation in larger trials.

Multifunctionality of annual forage crop mixtures for improved biomass, beef cattle diets, and soil health outcomes

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 9, Issue 2, June 2026.
Abstract Cover crop mixtures (CCMs) can fit well into various agricultural production systems and have gained popularity among grain and livestock producers, as well as organic and market gardeners across western Canada, due to their potential to enhance forage production and soil health.
