Development and Restoration Trajectory of a Low‐Energy River: The Case of the Vistre, a Coastal River in the South of France

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, Volume 41, Issue 10, Page 2107-2121, December 2025.
ABSTRACT The lack of attention paid to low‐energy watercourses, particularly at the academic level, complicates the design, implementation, and evaluation of their ecological restoration. This article examines the case of the Vistre, a river in southern France, and its rehabilitation, based mainly on remeandering.

Modeling Crack Arrest in Snow Slab Avalanches—Toward Estimating Avalanche Release Sizes

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 130, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Dry‐snow slab avalanches are the most fatal type of avalanches, beginning with the failure of a weak snow layer below cohesive slabs. This failure can propagate within the weak layer, causing the overlying slab to fracture and slide. Avalanche forecasters are interested in evaluating crack propagation propensity and potential avalanche sizes ...

An integrative, peer‐reviewed and open‐source cooperative‐breeding database (Co‐BreeD)

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 94, Issue 12, Page 2597-2614, December 2025.
Co‐BreeD is the first updatable and open‐source database dedicated to cooperative breeding. It enables continuous, non‐binary measurement of cooperative breeding, transforming how we study breeding systems across taxa. Further, by linking biological estimates to their exact sampling location and period, it allows for unprecedented accuracy in the ...

Managing hedgerows for biodiversity: Disentangling the effects of trimming, structure and connectivity on the use of linear features by bats

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 12, Page 3300-3313, December 2025.
Our findings underscore the value of extensive hedgerow management in promoting on‐farm bat activity and support the integration of simple hedgerow quality assessment protocols into agri‐environment schemes. Consistent with previous research, we confirm the importance of tall, tree‐filled hedgerows and emphasise the need to preserve mature trees.
