Impacts of Land Use and Flood Regime on Zooplankton Egg Banks in a Large River Floodplain

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 71, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Zooplankton egg banks are crucial in rebuilding zooplankton populations in temporary water bodies when favourable conditions return after dry periods. However, their abundance, viability, and hatching success depend on many factors, with changes in land use and flooding regimes being potentially crucial drivers.

Spatial Patterns and Controlling Factors of River Flow Intermittency in Africa

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Understanding river flow intermittency remains a major challenge in data‐scarce regions such as Africa. This study presents the first high‐resolution, four‐class intermittency map of African rivers using a sequential modeling approach based on Random Forest. A binary model (BC‐UNS) distinguishes perennial from non‐perennial reaches across 15.5

Emergence of the Food Balance Sheet: A History of A Traveling Idea L'émergence du bilan alimentaire : histoire d’une idée voyageuse

open access: yesContemporary Accounting Research, Volume 43, Issue 2, Page 1064-1090, Summer 2026.
ABSTRACT This article explores how accounting ideas travel to unfamiliar environments and instigate new modes of calculation therein. The empirical focus is on the food balance sheet, a key calculative technology in the realm of food security. Drawing on Said's four‐stage schema for analyzing the movement of theories and ideas, this investigation ...

Monitoring African Megafauna in an Anthropogenic Landscape: A 15‐Year Case Study of the Vulnerable West African Giraffe

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, Volume 29, Issue 3, Page 235-248, June 2026.
We used pattern recognition software to correct misidentifications in a 15‐year photographic database of the last, vulnerable West African giraffe population in Niger. After revealing substantial methodological errors that had inflated population estimates by nearly 19%, we corrected individual encounter histories and applied capture‐mark‐recapture ...

L’élevage bovin et l’environnement en France : le diagnostic justifie-t-il des alternatives techniques ?

open access: yesINRAE Productions Animales, 2003
Les relations entre l’élevage bovin et l’environnement sont complexes avec des implications positives (occupation du territoire, forte autonomie du système alimentaire, maintien de la biodiversité) et d’autres négatives (augmentation des teneurs en ...

A novel approach for distinguishing noise and information in forest MLS‐point clouds

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1595-1605, May 2026.
Abstract 3D laser scanning is a cornerstone of modern forest and ecological research, allowing detailed insight into forest structures and dynamics. Although point cloud processing and noise management are crucial steps in the exploitation of LiDAR data, traditional denoising methods are usually based on the assumption of a Gaussian noise distribution,

First Measurements of Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity From Peats of the Central Congo Basin

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 4, April 2026.
We show that saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) in surficial peats of central Congo Basin is low compared to deeper peat layers elsewhere in the tropics. Low Ksat in Congolese peats may be a result of low rainfall compared to other tropical peat forming regions, leading to deeper dry‐season water tables and more rapid decomposition.
