A Convolutional Neural Network‐Based Model for Precipitation Nowcasting Leveraging Data From Gauge Stations

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract Rainfall nowcasting, the short‐term prediction of precipitation, is a vital component of early warning systems aimed at mitigating the effects of extreme weather events. In this study, we develop a deep learning approach based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for rainfall nowcasting and train it exclusively on data from rain gauge ...

On the Structure and Redox Behavior of Ni and Cu Single Atoms Supported on Carbon Nitride

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 19, 4 May 2026.
Magnetic and electronic spectroscopies, combined with DFT, establish the MN4 binding site of Ni and Cu single atoms on carbon nitride and elucidate their redox photochemistry. Ni undergoes geometry‐preserving, reversible M2+/M+ cycling, whereas Cu collapses to an irreversible low‐coordinate Cu+ state, suppressing photocatalysis.

Coulomb branch algebras via symplectic cohomology

open access: yesJournal of Topology, Volume 19, Issue 2, June 2026.
Abstract Let (M¯,ω)$(\bar{M}, \omega)$ be a compact symplectic manifold with convex boundary and c1(TM¯)=0$c_1(T\bar{M})=0$. Suppose that (M¯,ω)$(\bar{M}, \omega)$ is equipped with a convex Hamiltonian G$G$‐action for some connected, compact Lie group G$G$.

The Role of Benzonitrile Chlorination Explored by Dissociative Electron Attachment

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 27, Issue 9, 14 May 2026.
Experimental and theoretical dissociative electron attachment study of 2‐ and 4‐chlorobenzonitrile. The dissociative electron attachment process to ortho‐ and para‐chlorobenzonitrile was investigated in the 0–12 eV energy range with a crossed‐beam time‐of‐flight mass spectrometer, supported by quantum chemical scattering calculations.

Wavefront Selective Modal Excitations for Optimally Informative Sensing in Fano‐Resonant Metasurfaces

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 9, 13 May 2026.
Structured illuminations can unlock hidden quasi‐BIC modes in Fano‐resonant metasurfaces, enhancing the sensitivity to nanoscale perturbations. By analyzing the eigenmode spectrum of a dielectric metasurface and applying information theory, tailored wavefronts can be engineered that selectively excite otherwise inaccessible modes.
