Novel testing and characterization of GFRP bars in compression [PDF]

open access: yesConstruction and Building Materials, 2019
Glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars have now been increasingly used as longitudinal reinforcement in concrete columns. In column design and analysis, the contribution of GFRP bars to compression is often ignored or is estimated as a fraction of ...

Compressive behavior of axially loaded circular hollow concrete columns reinforced with GFRP bars and spirals

open access: yesConstruction and Building Materials, 2019
This study explored the use glass-fiber-reinforced-polymer (GFRP) bars and spirals as reinforcing materials in hollow concrete columns in order to mitigate steel-related corrosion problems and understand the fundamental behavior of such construction ...

Post-Fire Behavior of GFRP Bars and GFRP-RC Slabs

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2018
AbstractTechnologies developed over the last two decades have introduced the use of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite bars as reinforcement in concrete structures when corrosion of th...

Characterization of Mechanical Properties of Hybrid Bamboo/GFRP and Jute/GFRP Composites

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2015
The superior properties of the natural fibers in comparison to their synthetic counterparts make them favorite for using as the reinforcement material in the polymer composites. But still the mechanical properties of these composites are lagging behind their synthetic counterparts like glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP).

Experimental investigation of thermal contact conductance across GFRP–GFRP joint

Heat and Mass Transfer, 2014
An experimental apparatus was established for measurements of thermal contact conductance of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) to GFRP interface. The influence of several primary factors on thermal contact conductance was investigated. Thermal contact conductance across GFRP to GFRP joint increases with increasing contact pressure, while decreases ...

Fatigue damage in GFRP

International Journal of Structural Integrity, 2012
PurposeComposite materials are increasingly used in the structural and mechanical fields, thanks to their high strength‐to‐weight ratios and the possibility of tailoring them to meet specific requirements. This study is focused on the damage to a glass fiber reinforced composite under different loading conditions.

Creep Behavior of Pultruded Ribbed GFRP Rebar and GFRP Reinforced Concrete Member

Journal of the Korea Concrete Institute, 2013
Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) has been gathering interest from designers and engineers for its possible usage as a replacement reinforcement of a steel reinforcing bar due to its advantageous characteristics such as high tensile strength, non-corrosive material, etc.

Effect of the GFRP wrapping on the shear and bending Behavior of RC beams with GFRP encasement

2022
The need for establishing the contribution of pultruded FRP encasements and additional FRP wraps around these encasements to the shear strength and load-deflection behavior of reinforced concrete beams is the main motivation of the present study. This paper primarily focuses on the effect of additional wrapping around the composite beam on the flexural

Parametric analysis of GFRP drilling

1995
Aim of the work is to study the influence of the interaction between the fibres/matrix and the tool on the cutting force in drilling of glass fibre reinforced polymers (GFRP). Experimental analysis has been developed machining monodirectional and fabric GFRP.

Low thermal contraction GFRP

Cryogenics, 1983
Abstract Glass fibre reinforced plastics (GFRP) with low thermal contraction and high compressive strength are reported. The linear thermal contraction from 300 K to 77 K in the direction normal to the plane of the laminations is the same as that of the superconductor. Ultimate compressive strength at 300 K is more than 800 MPa.
