Embedded smart GFRP reinforcements for monitoring reinforced concrete flexural components

Smart Structures and Systems, 2005
The main objectives of this paper are to demonstrate the feasibility of using newly developed smart GFRP reinforcements to effectively monitor reinforced concrete beams subjected to flexural and creep loads, and to develop non-linear numerical models to predict the behavior of these beams.

Precast Segments with Sulphoaluminate Cement and GFRP Reinforcement

2019
During tunnel excavation by means of a tunnel boring machine (TBM), the lining consists of precast structural elements, placed by the TBM during the excavation process and used as support elements during the advancing phase. The use of concrete based on sulphoaluminate binders allows the production of the elements to be speeded up, a reduction in the ...

Durability of GFRP Reinforcement Bars

2011
Results of a 3-year-long investigation of durability of one type of glass fiber reinforced vinylester composite reinforcement bar are summarized. Bars were cast in concrete beams and subjected to simultaneous sustained load and exposure to one of four different environments: ambient indoor laboratory, natural outdoor weathering in central Pennsylvania,

Study on GFRP Reinforced Beams under Flexure

International Journal of Emerging Research in Management and Technology, 2018
Acute shortage of raw materials and deterioration of reinforced concrete structural elements lead to implementation of new substitute materials and innovative technologies. Reinforced Cement Concrete structures are usually reinforced with steel bars which are subjected to corrosion at critical temperature and atmospheric conditions.

Pultruded GFRP Reinforcing Bars with Carbon Nanotubes

2018
Pultrusion is a renowned method in industry to produce glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) reinforcing bars. Pristine multiwalled carbon nanotubes (P-MWCNTs) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with carboxyl functional group (COOH-MWCNTs) were dispersed into the vinyl ester resin to produce GFRP bars.

Shear Resistance of GFRP Reinforced Concrete Beams

Rehabilitating and Repairing the Buildings and Bridges of Americas, 2002
The shear resistance of seven reinforced concrete beams were tested, as part of a M.Sc. thesis (Rayol 1999), using concrete strength between 53.8 and 70.3 MPa, with GFRP (glass fiber reinforced plastics) bars as flexure reinforcement, with and without steel shear reinforcement, a/d equal to 2.5.

Shear resistance of GFRP-reinforced concrete beams

Magazine of Concrete Research, 2011
This paper deals with the behaviour and shear capacity of concrete beams reinforced with glass-fibre-reinforced polymer (GFRP) reinforcing bars. Twelve large-scale beams with a shear span to effective depth of beam ratio of less than 2·5 were tested. The beams were divided into two groups each comprising three GFRP-reinforced beams and three control ...

TENSION STIFFENING IN GFRP REINFORCED CONCRETE BEAMS

2007
The relatively low modulus of elasticity and the different surface treatment of fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) rebars have a direct impact on the spacing of cracks and the profile of bond stress between cracks. Hence, a tension stiffening model for FRP rebars is likely to be very different from that of steel rebars.

Reinforcement of masonry panels with GFRP grids

2014
This paper reports and analyses the results of a series of mechanical tests carried out on historic walls reinforced with an innovative technique by means of jacketing with GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastics) grid inserted into an inorganic matrix made of cement based mortar in order to increase the lateral load-carrying and deformation capacity of ...
