Multifunctional Hydroxyapatite Coated with Gallium Liquid Metal‐Based Silver Nanoparticles for Infection Prevention and Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional hydroxyapatite (HAp) coating integrated with silver‐gallium liquid metal nanoparticles (HAp‐Ag‐GaNPs) exhibits dual antibacterial and osteogenic properties. It effectively inhibits Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria, including resistant strains, while enhancing bone regeneration.

Role of indocyanine green to look for vascularity of the pancreatic stump during Whipple’s procedure and its clinical implications in terms of post-pancreatectomy acute pancreatitis and postoperative pancreatic fistula

open access: yesBMJ Surgery, Interventions, & Health Technologies
Objectives Post-pancreatectomy acute pancreatitis (PPAP) has been a well-defined entity by the International Study Group of Pancreatic Surgery. Underlying cause may be hypoperfusion at remnant stump of pancreas, which has been linked with additional post-

Metal Nanoclusters for Cancer Imaging and Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary and discussion of the core–shell design capabilities of metal nanoclusters (NCs) at the atomic level for cancer imaging and treatment. It offers essential insights into the design principles of metal NCs while also encouraging the exploration of other nanomaterials and their potential theranostic ...

Bariatric surgery reveals a gut-restricted TGR5 agonist with anti-diabetic effects

open access: yesNature Chemical Biology, 2020
Bariatric surgery, the most effective treatment for obesity and type 2 diabetes, is associated with increased levels of the incretin hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and changes in levels of circulating bile acids.

Selective Laser Sintering 3D Printing of Drug‐Loaded Intravitreal Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Selective laser sintering enables the fabrication of biodegradable and biocompatible intravitreal implants with tunable microstructures for sustained drug delivery. By modulating laser scanning speed, the polymer matrix architecture is engineered to control the release kinetics of dexamethasone and riboflavin over several months. This approach offers a

Early Feeding After a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Oral fluids and food are traditionally introduced slowly after total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH). This descriptive study examined the effect and tolerance of early oral intake following this surgery. Methods: A retrospective chart review was

Robotic-assisted cholecystectomy: Current status and future application

open access: yesLaparoscopic, Endoscopic and Robotic Surgery, 2022
Robotic-assisted cholecystectomy (RC) is increasingly common. However, its exact role remains undefined, with multiport conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) being regarded as the established gold standard.

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

Major GI bleeding in older persons using aspirin: incidence and risk factors in the ASPREE randomised controlled trial

open access: yesGut, 2020
Objective There is a lack of robust data on significant gastrointestinal bleeding in older people using aspirin. We calculated the incidence, risk factors and absolute risk using data from a large randomised, controlled trial.
