Planet formation around stars of various masses: The snow line and the frequency of giant planets

open access: yes, 2007
We use a semi-analytic circumstellar disk model that considers movement of the snow line through evolution of accretion and the central star to investigate how gas giant frequency changes with stellar mass.

Large Anomalous and Topological Hall Effect and Nernst Effect in a Dirac Kagome Magnet Fe3Ge

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fe3Ge, a Kagome‐lattice magnet, exhibits remarkable anomalous Hall and Nernst effects, with transverse thermoelectric conductivity surpassing or comaprable to some well‐known ferromagnets. First‐principles calculations attribute these to Berry curvature from massive Dirac gaps. Additionally, topological Hall and Nernst signals emerge from field‐induced

Discovery of a Metal-poor Red Giant Star with the Highest Ultralithium Enhancement

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present the discovery of 2MASS J05241392−0336543 (hereafter J0524−0336), a very metal-poor ([Fe/H] = −2.43 ± 0.16), highly r -process-enhanced ([Eu/Fe] = +1.34 ± 0.10) Milky Way halo field red giant star, with an ultrahigh Li abundance of A (Li, 3D ...

Galactic Structure with Giant Stars

open access: yes, 2021
The content of this thesis derives from three projects conducted during my Ph.D, focusing on both the Milky Way and the Magellanic Clouds. I deploy long period variables, especially Miras, as chronometers to study the evolution of Galactic structure over stellar age. I study red giants in the Magellanic Clouds, assign them photometric metallicities and

The fluorine abundance in a Galactic Bulge AGB star measured from CRIRES spectra

open access: yes, 2008
We present measurements of the fluorine abundance in a Galactic Bulge Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) star. The measurements were performed using high resolution K-band spectra obtained with the CRIRES spectrograph, which has been recently installed at ESO'

2D Phosphorene‐Decorated Ni‐Rich Layered Cathodes for High‐Power and High‐Energy Li‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A conformal coating of 2D phosphorene nanosheets is decorated on Li[Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1]O2 cathodes to enhance fast charge–discharge performance and structural stability under high mass loading and low carbon content. As a result, it exhibits improved power capability, cycle stability, and suppressed structural degradation, offering a promising strategy ...

Binary companions of evolved stars in APOGEE DR14: Orbital circularization

open access: yes, 2018
Short-period binary star systems dissipate orbital energy through tidal interactions that lead to tighter, more circular orbits. When at least one star in a binary has evolved off of the main sequence, orbital circularization occurs for longer-period ...

Photoluminescent UV Light Modulation via Anisometric Carbon Nanodots for UV–Visible Shutter and UV Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Anisometric carbon nanodots are synthesized directly from a liquid crystal precursor and embedded into polymer network liquid crystals to create soft, multifunctional photonic films. These hybrid devices exhibit polarized photoluminescence, broad UV absorption, and fast, electrically tunable light modulation.

Spinning-Up the Envelope Before Entering a Common Envelope Phase

open access: yes, 2010
We calculate the orbital evolution of binary systems where the primary star is an evolved red giant branch (RGB) star, while the secondary star is a low-mass main sequence (MS) star or a brown dwarf.
