Multiscale gigapixel photography

Nature, 2012
Pixel count is the ratio of the solid angle within a camera's field of view to the solid angle covered by a single detector element. Because the size of the smallest resolvable pixel is proportional to aperture diameter and the maximum field of view is scale independent, the diffraction-limited pixel count is proportional to aperture area.

Acuity-Driven Gigapixel Visualization

IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2013
We present a framework for acuity-driven visualization of super-high resolution image data on gigapixel displays. Tiled display walls offer a large workspace that can be navigated physically by the user. Based on head tracking information, the physical characteristics of the tiled display and the formulation of visual acuity, we guide an out-of-core ...

Refocusable Gigapixel Panoramas for Immersive VR Experiences

IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2021
There have been significant advances in capturing gigapixel panoramas (GPP). However, solutions for viewing GPPs on head-mounted displays (HMDs) are lagging: an immersive experience requires ultra-fast rendering while directly loading a GPP onto the GPU is infeasible due to limited texture memory capacity.
