Spore germination of Gigaspora margarita stimulated by volatiles of soil-isolated actinomycetes

Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 1995
Abstract Nineteen field isolates of actinomycetes and Streptomyces orientalis were evaluated for their production of volatile compounds that stimulate spore germination of Gigaspora margarita , an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus. Some actinomycetes enhanced spore germination, whereas others did not.

Acidic vesicles in living hyphae of an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus, Gigaspora margarita

Plant and Soil, 2004
Localization and movement of organelles in living hyphae of an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus, Gigaspora margarita, were observed using a combination of fluorescent probes and laser-scanning confocal microscopy. Dense, evenly distributed acidic vesicles were visible in germ tubes and extraradical hyphae using DIC with the fluorescent acidotropic probe ...

The virome of the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Gigaspora margarita

2017
As very ancient and widespread in nature, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are key com-ponents of the plant microbiota. Recent publication of genomic and transcriptomic data shed light on the biology and evolution of AMF. The genetic complexity of AMF is increased by the presence of endobacteria which live inside many AMF1.

Enhanced activity of the GmarMT1 promoter from the mycorrhizal fungus Gigaspora margarita at limited carbon supply

Fungal Genetics and Biology, 2007
Metallothioneins are low molecular weight polypeptides, present in most eukaryotic phyla, with role in metal homeostasis and detoxification. We previously reported the identification and the characterization of a metallothionein gene (GmarMT1) from the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Gigaspora margarita.

Effect of onion ( Allium cepa ) root exudates on the hyphal growth of Gigaspora margarita

Mycorrhiza, 1995
The effect of root exudates from onions differing in P status on spore germination and hyphal growth of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi was investigated. Onion (Allium cepa) was grown in solution culture at different phosphorus concentrations (0, 0.1, 1.0, 8.0 and 24.0 mg P l–1) and root exudates were collected.

Influence of nitrogen and phosphorus on polyphosphate accumulation in Gigaspora margarita during spore germination

Plant and Soil, 2009
Polyphosphate (polyP) is the form in which phosphorus (P) is transferred from extraradical hyphae into arbuscles in the symbiotic stage of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. However, polyP dynamics in the presymbiotic stage are less understood. In this study, we aimed to investigate polyP accumulation in Gigaspora margarita as influenced by nitrogen (N) and/

Gigaspora margarita inoculation of Nicotiana tabacum: responses to fertilization

Canadian Journal of Botany, 1981
Gigaspora margarita was increased in pot culture using Sorghum vulgare ('Shallu'). Soil was treated with methyl bromide (102 mg/L) for 24 h or heat treated at 82 °C for 6 h and mixed with vermiculite. Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) NC 2326 was inoculated at transplating with 500 (in 1978) or 4050 (in 1979) azygospores per plant and fertilized at three ...
