Mechanoreceptor activity in the gills of the carp. I. Gill filament and gill raker mechanoreceptors

Respiration Physiology, 1987
Physiological properties of gill filament and gill raker mechanoreceptors in the gills of spontaneously breathing carp, Cyprinus carpio L., were analysed. Stroking stimuli applied to gill filaments elicited a phasic mechanoreceptive response, which was recorded from neurons in the epibranchial ganglia.

Salmonid gill bacteria and their relationship to amoebic gill disease

Journal of Fish Diseases, 2004
Abstract16S ribosomal RNA gene analysis was used to assess the bacterial community associated with Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., gills which were either affected by amoebic gill disease (AGD) or were AGD‐negative, in order to determine the role that bacteria may play in the development of AGD.

Nervous control of the gills

Acta Histochemica, 2009
The fish gill is a highly complex organ that performs a wide variety of physiological processes and receives extensive nervous innervation from both afferent (sensory) and efferent (motor) fibres. Innervation from the latter source includes autonomic nerve fibres of spinal (sympathetic) and cranial (parasympathetic) origin whose primary role is to ...

The microvasculature of the elasmobranch gill

Cell And Tissue Research, 1980
Corrosion replicas were made of the gill vasculature of the spiny dogfish shark (S. acanthias) and little skate (R. erinacea) by methylmethacrylate perfusion via the ventral or dorsal aorta at 2.0-5.3 kPa. After tissue maceration the replicas were examined by light and scanning electron microscopy.

Gilles Deleuze

2001
Perhaps the best way to approach the relationship between Deleuze and Agamben is to adopt a method from Deleuze and Guattari’s late philosophy: the conceptual persona.1 Here philosophical proper names do not stand for biographies or persons but for orientations or maps of thinking. Descartes, for example, enables a whole tradition of Cartesian dualism,

Phospholipids of fish gills

Lipids, 1972
AbstractLipids were extracted from gill filaments of nine species of fish. Individual phospholipids as a percentage of the total were determined. These data revealed a pattern which did not appear to vary between pre‐ and postspawning salmon or among fish living at greatly differing ocean depths.
