The influence of flap design on the relevance of biomaterials in regenerative periodontal surgery
Abstract Background The aim of this systematic review was to explore whether the benefits of biomaterials in periodontal regenerative/reconstructive surgery are affected by the type of flap employed. The study addresses the existing gap in the evidence to substantiate the beneficial effect of minimal invasive periodontal surgical approach compared to a

Cytokine levels in gingival tissues as an indicator to understand periodontal disease severity
Cytokines regulate periodontal pathogenesis and are relevant estimates of current disease activity. There is sparse information on status of cytokine protein levels in periodontal pocket (gingival) tissues.

The effects on chronic periodontitis of a subgingivally-placed redox agent in a slow release device [PDF]
Adjunctive chemical agents can reduce the need for meticulous plaque control. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the periodontal treatment potential of subgingival application of the redox agent methylene blue in a slow release device.

Polymicrobial periodontal disease triggers a wide radius of effect and unique virome. [PDF]
Periodontal disease is a microbially-mediated inflammatory disease of tooth-supporting tissues that leads to bone and tissue loss around teeth. Although bacterially-mediated mechanisms of alveolar bone destruction have been widely studied, the effects of

Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) levels in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of 46 normal controls and 90 patients suffering from periodontitis with different periodontal pocket depths were measured by radioimmunoassay (RIA). The results demonstrated that PGE2 levels in the GCF of the periodontal pockets are higher in patients with periodontitis.

Tracing the evolution of root coverage: Clinical milestones leading to a minimally invasive era
Abstract Over the past several decades, periodontal plastic surgery has undergone a remarkable transformation, particularly in the field of root coverage procedures. This review traces the historical evolution of surgical techniques, from the early use of pedicle flaps and free gingival grafts (FGGs) to the development of bilaminar approaches ...
