Tissue Perfusion and Biomarkers Assessment Following Root Coverage Procedures

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Gingival recessions treated with a collagen matrix loaded with rhPDGF showed significantly greater early tissue perfusion compared to sites treated without the growth factor. Early tissue perfusion outcomes were correlated to the amount of root coverage and gingival thickness gain at 6 months.

Periodontitis and metabolic diseases (diabetes and obesity): Tackling multimorbidity

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are multifactorial, long‐term, chronic conditions that represent a burden to health‐care systems worldwide as they can only be controlled rather than cured; hence, they require long‐term care. With the exponential increase in NCDs, the occurrence of individuals presenting with more than one chronic disease is ...

High‐Frequency Ultrasound for Detecting Periodontal Inflammation: A Preclinical Diagnostic Accuracy Study

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This preclinical porcine study evaluated the accuracy of ultrasound (US) for estimating dimensions of inflamed periodontium. Seven periodontal parameters were measured and compared between US, cone‐beam computed tomography (CBCT), and histology. US has excellent/good agreement with histology in estimating bone level/thickness, soft tissue height ...

Mechanical plaque removal in step‐1 of care

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Maintaining a regular oral hygiene routine is essential for taking care of our mouths, ensuring healthy teeth, and achieving fresh breath. Patient education on oral hygiene is an important component of their overall treatment. Firstly, patients should be informed about the direct connection between bacteria in dental plaque and oral diseases ...

Diagnostic Accuracy of Microbiome‐Derived Biomarkers in Periodontitis: Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Microbiome‐derived biomarkers demonstrate high diagnostic accuracy for periodontitis, with subgingival samples outperforming saliva in clinical utility. This systematic review and meta‐analysis analysed 13 biomarkers from 10 studies, highlighting their diagnostic potential across oral fluids.

Metabolomic Profiles of Oral Rinse Samples to Distinguish Severe Periodontitis Patients From Non‐Periodontitis Controls

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Metabolomic fingerprints analyzed from oral rinses are able to distinguish between severe periodontitis (stage III/IV) patients and non‐periodontitis controls. ABSTRACT Aims To explore the potential of metabolomic profiles of oral rinse samples to distinguish between patients with severe periodontitis (stage III/IV) and non‐periodontitis controls. This

A BiO‐Optimizing Site Targeted (BOOST) Approach to Periodontal Regeneration Through Local Doxycycline Prior to Surgery: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Localized pre‐surgical modulation of inflammation using doxycycline (BOOST) improved early wound healing and enhanced clinical and radiographic outcomes of periodontal regeneration at 1 year, demonstrating significant benefits in terms of CAL gain, defect fill, and pocket closure compared to standard care.
