Ultrastructure of Gingival Epithelium in Chronic Gingivitis
Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2012We studied ultrastructural reorganization of the gingival mucosa in chronic gingivitis. It was found that chronic inflammation leads to significant intracellular reorganization of epitheliocytes in the basal and prickle cell layers of gingival epithelium and their pronounced structural and functional heterogeneity.

Abstract Gingivitis is caused by substances derived from microbial plaque accumulating at or near the gingival sulcus; all other suspected local and systemic etiologic factors either enhance plaque accumulation or retention, or enhance the susceptibility of the gingival tissue to microbial attack. Microbial species specifically associated with gingival

Gingival grafting and gingival repositioning
The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1969A free gingival graft was performed on a 21-year-old actress who had inflamed, enlarged, unsightly lower anterior gingival tissue. Such grafting provides an almost immediate stabile, well-keratinized zone of attached gingiva in regions where little or none was present before. Healing is rapid and predictable.

Abstract In recent years, tremendous strides have been made in understanding the etiology of gingivitis. This increase in knowledge has come, for the most part, from basic research in oral microbiology, immunology, histology and pathology. Over the past decade, less progress has been made in further refining the epidemiological relationships between ...

The phylum Synergistetes in gingivitis and necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis
Journal of Medical Microbiology, 2012The clinical manifestation of necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis (NUG) is distinct from that of common gingivitis in that it is characterized by local necrosis of the gingival tissues, rapid onset, pain and extensive bleeding. The phylum Synergistetes is a novel bacterial phylum consisting of Gram-negative anaerobes, with evidence of presence in ...

Conservative Management of Gingival Recession: The Gingival Veneer
Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, 2012ABSTRACTGingival recession is apical migration of the gingival tissues resulting in exposure of the underlying root surface. This can cause significant esthetic concerns for the patient, especially when it affects the anterior teeth. The gingival veneer is a prosthesis indicated for challenging clinical situations where there are esthetic concerns ...
