The Gini index of speech [PDF]
In which representation is speech most sparse? Time-scale? Time-frequency? Which window generator and length should be used to create the sparsest decomposition? To answer these questions, we propose the Gini index, which is twice the area between the Lorenz curve and the 45 degree line, as a measure of signal sparsity.

Measuring and explaining economic inequality: An extension of the Gini coefficient. [PDF]
This paper proposes a new class of inequality indices based on the Gini’s coefficient. The properties of the indices are studied and in particular they are found to be regular, relative and satisfy the Pigou-Dalton transfer principle.

Abstract Ecosystem services are rapidly degrading under anthropogenic pressure. Therefore, it is increasingly important to understand how ecosystem services flow, particularly at local scales, where people directly rely on nature for their livelihoods and well‐being. Unravelling vicious circles of land use competition and food insecurity in agropastoral rangelands

One example is the Borana Zone in southern Ethiopia, where the expansion of crop cultivation

Measuring inequality of well-being with a correlation-sensitive multidimensional Gini index [PDF]
We propose to measure inequality of well-being with a multidimensional generalization of the Gini coefficient. We derive two inequality indices from their underlying social evaluation functions.

This study found that the metabolomic signature of umbilical venous cord blood in congenital heart disease (CHD) differs from that of healthy monozygotic (MZ) co‐twins. Dysregulation of metabolic pathways like glucose, lipid, and amino acid metabolism, along with altered metabolites, helps understand CHD predisposition.
