ABSTRACT : This is a review article on Lorenz Curve (LC) and Gini index (GI). The focus here is on those aspects of LC and GI which are not reviewed elsewhere. We present here both mathematical and statistical aspects of LC and GI, which include their relevance in economic theory and reliability, and bounds, approximations, extensions and various ...

Dispersion, Asymmetry and the Gini Index of Inequality
International Economic Review, 1987This paper focuses on the Gini index and presents two additional features which may be characterized as new indices of location and skewness. In section 2, a fast computation algorithm of the Gini index is shown. This algorithm demonstrates that Gini's index belongs to the class of relative mean deviations.

Decomposing the Gini Inequality Index
Sociological Methods & Research, 2014The aim of this article is to propose a new breakdown of the Gini inequality ratio into three components ( within-group inequality, between-group inequality, and intensity of transvariation between groups to the total inequality index). The between-group inequality concept computes all the differences in salaries between men and women.

Fuzzifying Gini Index based decision trees
Expert Systems with Applications, 2009Crisp decision tree algorithms face the problem of having sharp decision boundaries which may not be found in all real life classification problems. A fuzzy decision tree algorithm Gini Index based (G-FDT) is proposed in this paper to fuzzify the decision boundary without converting the numeric attributes into fuzzy linguistic terms. Gini Index is used

Insurance Ratemaking and a Gini Index
Journal of Risk and Insurance, 2013AbstractWelfare economics uses Lorenz curves to display skewed income distributions and Gini indices to summarize the skewness. This article extends the Lorenz curve and Gini index by ordering insurance risks; the ordering variable is a riskābased score relative to price, known as a relativity.
