With the growing importance of mapping land, regions, and their related features, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has become an ever important standard in fields where such detailed study of land features is required. Our archaeology digital library, ETANA-DL (http://etana.dlib.vt.edu), contains thousands of records from eight member excavations ...

Quo vadis GIS: From GIS to GIMS and Open GIS
1995Modern Geographic Information Systems should provide powerful user-oriented information systems for maintenance and analyses of spatially referenced data. The first part of the paper gives a gentle introduction into the area of GIS, their applications and provides a short overview of fundamental features in traditional GIS. Problems and deficiencies in

On approximations for the GI/GI/1 queue
Computer Networks and ISDN Systems, 1990Abstract This paper contains an investigation of mean waiting time (and queue length) approximations for the GI/GI/1 queue. A great number of previous works on the subject have appeared. An important background for the present work is an ITC-paper by Sudhofen and Pawlita, containing a study of the H2/M/1 queue. This queue has a well-known solution.

Problem GIs and the GI Problem
2018Drunken and brawling GIs behind the lines ended up providing the greatest irritant to good Franco-American relations. The warm welcome accorded to the liberators sometimes turned to active dislike as GI crime mounted. The French, used to low levels of crime before the war and “correct” German behavior during the occupation, were shocked by the ...

The implementation and development of effective mentoring is crucial to the growth and success of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) librarianship and staffing. Mentoring is necessary to fill the gaps for all staff members, especially students. I propose that mentoring can assuage many of the staffing obstacles to successful GIS programs.
