Glacial isostatic adjustment on Mars
Introduction: The response of a planet to loading is intimately linked to its interior structure. On Earth, studying the time-variable response of the lithosphere to the growth and decay of large ice sheets, or glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA), has been the standard approach to constrain the mantle structure [1].Adrien Broquet +7 more

Comparisons among contemporary glacial isostatic adjustment models
Journal of Geodynamics, 2012Abstract We compare 14 glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) models from different authors to assess how well the GIA effect could be removed from space geodetic data, such as those of the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellites, to study climate related and other mass changes within the Earth system.

MODELLING THE GLACIAL ISOSTATIC ADJUSTMENT USING SELEN

Modelling the glacial isostatic adjustment of the UK region
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2006The glacial isostatic adjustment of the UK region has been considered in a number of recent studies. We have revisited this problem in order to: (i) highlight some key issues with regard to limitations in the ice modelling approach adopted in these studies and (ii) consider the constraints provided from observations of crustal motion available via ...

Global glacial isostatic adjustment and coastal tectonics
Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 1999Abstract A global and gravitationally self-consistent model of the process of glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) has been developed that extremely well reconciles the vast majority of available records of Holocene relative sea-level history, not only from sites that were ice covered at last glacial maximum (LGM) but also from sites that are ...

Glacial Isostatic Adjustment in Antarctica : a rheological study
2022
The Antarctic Ice Sheet (AIS) is the largest ice sheet on Earth that has known important mass
changes during the last 20 kyrs. These changes deform the Earth and modify its gravity field,
a process known as Glacial Isostatic ...

Glacial isostatic adjustment constrains dehydration stiffening beneath Iceland
Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 2012Abstract During melting in the upper mantle the preferred partitioning of water into the melt will effectively dehydrate the solid residue. Linear extrapolation of laboratory experiments suggests that dehydration can produce a sharp viscosity contrast (increase) of a factor 500 across the dry solidus.

Isostatic adjustments in a full glacial sea
Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences, 1983During the last glaciation an ice-free corridor existed between the northeast Ellesmere Island and northwest Greenland ice sheets. This corridor constituted a peripheral depression in which the marine limit marks the uppermost extent of a full glacial sea.

A new Glacial Isostatic Adjustment model for Antarctica
Quaternary International, 2012We present a new glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) model which has been developed using a combination of ice sheet modelling and GIA modelling. The glacial history of Antarctica was generated using a numerical ice sheet model, driven by spatial and temporal variations in temperature, accumulation rate and relative sea level.
