In an aqueous alkaline medium, fatty acids (from the hydrolysis of triglycerides or freely present in the oil) are ionised in order to form emulsifiers (carboxylates) which will physically stabilise the prepared emulsion. The higher the free fatty acids content of the oil and alkalinity of the solution, the higher will be the stability of the prepared ...

Mapping Glacial Lakes with Prisma Images
Glacial lakes are increasing their importance as a pool of water resources in a warming climate scenario. As glaciers are melting at increasing rates, new glacial lakes appear to the detriment of more stable frozen water. Monitoring this trend is important to track the distribution of the water resource in the mountains and to report any dangerous ...

A soft electrochemical actuator using a hierarchically structured polypyrrole membrane with coral‐like hollow vesicles achieves stable performance at −24°C. The unique architecture ensures continuous conductivity and rapid ion diffusion, resulting in large strain, low energy consumption, and high coulombic efficiency under subzero conditions. This work

Carbonates from Santos Basin revealed U–Pb ages correlated with basalt ages (A), suggesting that they were formed during magmatic events. These events placed hot CO2 in the reservoir, which, when mixed with carbonate‐rich cold water (B), led to thermal convection, enabling the formation of the U contained in the carbonates.
