Biobased Epoxidized Castor Oil Covalent Adaptable Networks Adhesives Reinforced with Recycled Carbon Fibers

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
It is reported the design of biobased sustainable, smart, and functional adhesives achieved dispersing recycled carbon fibers into biobased epoxy monomer. ABSTRACT The development of sustainable, smart, and functional adhesives is crucial in advancing environmentally friendly materials.

The hunt for Scabiosa trenta Hacq: how the pursuit of a phantom ignited a passion for botany and mountaineering

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Scabiosa trenta Hacq. was first described in 1782 by Balthasar Hacquet, with its specific epithet referring to the Trenta Valley in Slovenia. Since then, S. trenta has been the focus of numerous mountaineering and botanical expeditions, particularly by the alpinist Julius Kugy during the Golden Age of Alpinism, a period in the second half of 19th ...

Optical Remote Sensing of Glacier Characteristics: A Review with Focus on the Himalaya

open access: yesSensors, 2008
The increased availability of remote sensing platforms with appropriate spatial and temporal resolution, global coverage and low financial costs allows for fast, semi-automated, and cost-effective estimates of changes in glacier parameters over large ...

Understanding the effects of patch‐burn grazing management on aboveground grassland invertebrate biodiversity

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Landscape heterogeneity is widely recognized as a driver of biodiversity, yet its consequences for above‐ground, foliage‐dwelling insect communities under active grassland management remain underexplored. Patch‐burn grazing (PBG), which rotates fire across patches within a grazed landscape, is designed to promote spatial and temporal heterogeneity by ...

From the brink of extinction to regulation: northern Europe's white‐tailed eagles now face density dependence and climate constraints after rapid population growth

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Population growth reflects the combined influence of regulation and density‐independent factors operating through demographic processes. Under exceptional circumstances (e.g. populations recovering from near‐extinction), growth may initially be weakly regulated but typically slows as negative density dependence (NDD) sets in.

Monitoring the physical processes driving the mass loss of Tapado Glacier, Dry Andes of Chile

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology
We summarise 15 years of field and remote monitoring of Tapado Glacier in north-central Chile (30° S). Observations include meteorological records, direct mass balance measurements, uncrewed aerial vehicle surveys and tri-stereo satellite imagery for ...

Multitrophic alpha and beta diversity of lake plankton across Canada

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Anthropogenic environmental changes impact freshwater biodiversity globally. While biodiversity assessments in freshwater environments have traditionally focused on individual groups of organisms or trophic levels, considering patterns of ‘multitrophic biodiversity' across the food web provides a more comprehensive view of anthropogenic impacts and ...

Justice in coexistence: Pastoralism and large carnivores on the Qinghai‐Tibet Plateau

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract The conflict between livestock husbandry and large carnivore conservation presents significant challenges in grassland ecosystems worldwide. Achieving sustainable coexistence among herders, livestock and large carnivores requires reconciling diverse perspectives and interests through equitable, inclusive and fair processes that address both ...
