Apparent Short-Term Glacier Velocity Variations [PDF]
Abstract In connection with a glacier-hydrological project at a sub-polar glacier in West Greenland, short-term glacier velocity variations were measured. Both the horizontal and the vertical velocity components showed distinct diurnal variations.

Reconstruction of Petermann glacier velocity time series using multi-source remote sensing images
Glacier velocity is one of the crucial parameters in the research of glacier dynamics. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR), as an active microwave sensor, represents a common method to monitor glacier velocity.

Creep-Velocity Bounds and Glacier-Flow Problems [PDF]
Abstract A general result due to Martin can be used to find upper and lower bounds on velocities in steady-creep problems. This method can be applied to glacier flow if ice can be assumed to satisfy a powerlaw stress–strain-rate relation.

Flow velocities of Alaskan glaciers [PDF]
Our poor understanding of tidewater glacier dynamics remains the primary source of uncertainty in sea level rise projections. On the ice sheets, mass lost from tidewater calving exceeds the amount lost from surface melting. In Alaska, the magnitude of calving mass loss remains unconstrained, yet immense calving losses have been observed.

SURFACE VELOCITY DYNAMICS OF SAMUDRA TAPU GLACIER, INDIA FROM 2013 TO 2017 USING LANDSAT-8 DATA [PDF]
In glacier dynamics, surface velocity of glacier is an important parameter to understand the behaviour of glacier in absence of mass balance and long-term glacier area change information.

57-Year Ice Velocity Dynamics in Byrd Glacier Based on Multisource Remote Sensing Data
Long time-series glacier ice velocity reflects the local climate changes and can be used to estimate mass balance (MB) changes, which is a critical parameter for understanding of glacier–climate interactions and prediction of sea level rise ...

Glacier velocity is one of the critical parameters for understanding the current health status of a glacier. According to the momentum law, mass is inversely proportional to velocity. A higher velocity may indicate a lower mass.
