Potential climatic transitions with profound impact on Europe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We discuss potential transitions of six climatic subsystems with large-scale impact on Europe, sometimes denoted as tipping elements. These are the ice sheets on Greenland and West Antarctica, the Atlantic thermohaline circulation, Arctic sea ice, Alpine

Geomatic methods applied to the change study of the la Paúl Rock Glacier, Spanish Pyrenees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Producción CientíficaRock glaciers are one of the most important features of the mountain permafrost in the Pyrenees. La Paúl is an active rock glacier located in the north face of the Posets massif in the La Paúl glacier cirque (Spanish Pyrenees).

Recent changes in glacial area and volume on Tuanjiefeng peak region of Qilian Mountains, China. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Glaciers' runoff in the Qilian Mountains serves as a critical water resource in the northern sections of the Gansu province, the northeastern sections of the Qinghai province, and the northeastern fringe of the Tibetan Plateau.

CALVING DYNAMICS DERIVED FROM SATELLITE SAR DATA IN SUPPORT OF MASS BALANCE ESTIMATIONS IN LANGE GLACIER, ANTARCTICA [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2020
We present calving flux, calving rate, frontal retreat and volume change rate results in Lange Glacier from 2015 to 2017, including also velocity calculations in 2015, 2017 and 2018.

Volume, formation and sedimentation of future glacier lakes in Switzerland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Abstract. Ongoing climate change and associated glacier retreat is causing rapid environmental change, including shifts in high-alpine landscapes. Glacier lakes, which can form in topographical depressions left behind by glacier retreat, are prominent features within such landscapes.

Origin and significance of 'dispersed facies' basal ice: Svínafellsjökull, Iceland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Dispersed facies basal ice - massive (i.e. structureless) ice with dispersed debris aggregates - is present at the margins of many glaciers and, as a product of internal glacial processes, has the potential to provide important information about the ...

The 1982/83 surge and antecedent quiescent phase of Variegated Glacier: revising the original dataset for application in flow line models

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 2017
The extensive dataset of Variegated Glacier's 1982/83 surge and antecedent quiescent phase is fragmentary and predominantly of flow line nature. Applying the raw centre line data in a flow line model to conduct research into the mechanism behind ...

Recent volume loss of British Columbian glaciers, Canada

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2007
We use the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) data and digital terrain models from aerial photography to quantify the change of glacier volume in British Columbia (BC), Canada for the period 1985–1999. We note substantial elevation bias in the SRTM elevations, typically on the order of −12 m km−1. The bias‐corrected thinning rate is −0.78 ± 0.19 m
