Quaternary glaciation history and glaciology of Jakobshavn Isbræ and the Disko Bugt region, [PDF]

open access: yesGeological Survey of Denmark and Greenland Bulletin, 2007
The Disko Bugt region in central West Greenland is characterised by permanent ice streams, of which Jakobshavn Isbræ is by far the most important. The first thorough studies on the glaciology of the region were conducted over 150 years ago by H.J.

The Role of Sediment Supply on Fish Habitat Dynamics of a Morphologically Active River Widening

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Restoration measures, such as river widening, aim to reactivate key morphodynamic processes, which are critical drivers of fluvial habitat dynamics. While some evidence supports the important role of sediment supply on river widening's morphology, its link to fish habitat availability and dynamics remains unclear.

For whom and by whom is glaciology?

open access: yes
Glacier and ice sheet research is frequently justified on the basis of potential benefits to those communities that are most vulnerable to glacier change.

Out in the cold? A review of Early Middle Palaeolithic settlements in northern Central Europe, age data and geological preconditions for site formation and preservation

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The characteristics of settlement of Neanderthals in northern Central Europe during the earlier phases of the Middle Palaeolithic (Marine Isotope Stage 8–6) have been a matter of debate for decades, specifically regarding the population dynamics at such latitudes during the coldest phases. In this paper, we review the known archaeological record of the

Global sea-level contribution from Arctic land ice: 1971–2017

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2018
The Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program (AMAP 2017) report identifies the Arctic as the largest regional source of land ice to global sea-level rise in the 2003–2014 period.

Refining the timing of Middle Pleistocene (MIS 12 to MIS 6) ice advances into northern central Europe: sedimentological analysis and single‐grain luminescence dating of glaciotectonic complexes and tunnel‐valley fills

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
We summarize the current state of knowledge on the age of the Middle Pleistocene ice advances into northern central Europe and provide 25 new single‐grain feldspar luminescence ages of Elsterian and Saalian glacigenic sediments to constrain the age of the ice advances and their tentative correlation with marine isotope stages/substages.

Can shrubs help to reconstruct historical glacier retreats?

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2012
In the 21st century, most of the world’s glaciers are expected to retreat due to further global warming. The range of this predicted retreat varies widely as a result of uncertainties in climate and glacier models.
