Glaciological research in the Antarctic Peninsula

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. B, Biological Sciences, 1977
The Antarctic Peninsula is a good place for studies that take advantage of its wide range of latitude. Other worthwhile investigations are those that set in context the glacier/climate relationships and provide a framework of basic glaciological data.

Photogrammetry as A Research Tool for Glaciology

The Photogrammetric Record, 1997
Using a multidisciplinary project studying surging glaciers in Svalbard as a reference, this paper examines some of the ways in which photogrammetry can be used as a research tool by glaciologists. Photogrammetric compilations of two of the glaciers under study were produced from 1990 aerial photography.

The foundations of Antarctic glaciology

Archives of Natural History, 2005
Heroic treks inland by Scott, Shackleton, and Amundsen in the early 1900s demonstrated the immensity of the Antarctic ice cover. But it has taken a century to estimate its volume and elucidate its intricate dynamics. Three significant milestones in the development of Antarctic glaciology have been: the memoir Glaciology by Charles Wright and Raymond ...

Glaciology news in brief

Environmental Earth Sciences, 2014
Our “News in Brief” series, which examines the various areas and topics in the earth sciences, takes a look at recent emerging research in glaciology and focuses on its progress with the uncertainties in ice-mass change. Martin Sharp from Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta describes the efforts that have been ...

Current trends in glaciology

Earth-Science Reviews, 1970
Abstract Glaciology has become a broad interdisciplinary science, which should no longer be considered as a subdivision of hydrology. Major contributions to glaciology during the last five years are reviewed (131 references are given) and prognoses are made concerning lines of future research in the years to come.

Inverse Methods in Radio Glaciology [PDF]

open access: possible, 1985
Since the early sixties, Radio Glaciology has been carried out over polar ice, over sea ice and over water-laden temperate glacier ice. Initially, the principal observable in pulsed echo sounding was the echo-delay time and the inversion problem centred around the need to know both the velocity of propagation of electromagnetic waves in ice and snow ...
