Penetration of a glass-faced transparent elastomeric resin by a lead-antimony-cored bullet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The penetration of the lead antimony-cored 7.62 mm × 51 mm bullet into a glass- faced polyurethane elastomeric polymer resin has been studied. The resulting craters in the resin contained elongated bullet core material that had a significant amount of ...

Faience: the ceramic technology of ancient Egypt [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Faiences are ancient Egyptian ceramic materials, considered as "high-tech" products. The paper discussed the method by which the faiences were produced and the application of SEM and Raman spectroscopy to their ...

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

Glass‐ceramic: Controlled crystallization of glasses obtained from biomass ash

open access: yes, 2023
In this work, vitreous material was produced, using ash from burning wood in a boiler, to obtain a glass-ceramic with the gehlenite phase. The glass obtained by melt-quenching at 1450°C was characterized by differential scanning calorimetry and other ...

Enhanced strength, in vitro bone cell differentiation and mineralization of injectable bone cement reinforced with multiferroic particles

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2019
Self-setting calcium sulphate hemihydrate (CSH) composites were prepared by reinforcing with BiFeO3 (BF, a multiferroic material) with an aim to induce in situ charge generating capacity and increase its strength.

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Performance of colloidal CdS sensitized solar cells with ZnO nanorods/nanoparticles

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2017
As an alternative photosensitizer in dye-sensitized solar cells, bovine serum albumin (BSA) (a nonhazardous protein) was used in the synthesis of colloidal CdS nanoparticles (NPs).

Natural Bone‐Derived Ceramic Scaffolds Functionalized with Chitosan‐Gold, Chitosan‐Magnesium, and Chitosan‐Zinc for Enhanced Antibacterial Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the development of antibacterial ceramic scaffolds derived from natural bovine bone. The bones were processed through sequential boiling and hydrogen peroxide treatment to remove organic matter, producing porous, mineral‐rich scaffolds.

Molecular Dynamics Studies of Shape Memory Polymers: From Bead–Spring Models to Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...
