Viscosities and electrical conductivities of oxidic glass-forming melts

Solid State Ionics, 1998
Viscosities and electrical conductivities of a number of multi-component, glass-forming melts are presented and discussed. The data support the notion that glass melts do have a residual, temperature-dependent structure that significantly determines mass and momentum transport.

Electrical behavior of platinum-group metals in glass-forming oxide melts

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2005
Abstract This paper presents an experimental study of the electrical conduction mechanisms in glass-forming oxide melts containing RuO 2 needles. The composites were obtained by melting calcine in an industrial-scale induction-heated cold crucible melter.

Synthesis of binary glass-forming oxide glasses by hot-pressing of gels

Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 1980
Abstract Mixed gels of SiO 2 TiO 2 , SiO 2 P 2 O 5 and SiO 2 B 2 O 3 systems were prepared by sol-gel and/or hydrolysis and polycondensation of organometallic compounds. The conversion of gel into glass was achieved by hot-pressing of the previously dehydrated gel.

Oxidation — Reduction Equilibrium in Glass Forming Melts

1977
The effect of temperature, oxygen fugacity, and melt composition on the oxidation-reduction equilibrium in glass-forming oxide melts has been discussed. The thermodynamics of mutual oxidation-reduction in glass, and the effect of heat treatment at lower temperatures has also been described.

Diffusion, Oxidation, and Nucleation of Crystalline Phases in the Glass- Forming System Zr60Ni25Al15

1995
Oxidation kinetics and crystallization behavior of melt-quenched amorphous Zr60Ni25Al15 samples were studied by MeV4 He-backscattering spectrometry and transmission electron microscopy. The samples were annealed between 310°C and 430° C in dry oxygen. A planar diffusion-controlled growth of an amorphous ZrAl-oxide is observed, beginning at the surface.

A new accelerated oxidative stability test for glass-forming organic compounds

Thermochimica Acta, 1990
Abstract A new accelerated thermo-oxidative test has been developed for use with crystalline organic compounds which solidify to a stable vitreous solid from the melt. The principle of the method is based on the fact that the glass transition temperature of the solid is linearly dependent upon the prior oxidative history of the sample. The fixed time,

Application op mass action law to glass forming oxide melts

Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 1987
Some difficulties in applying the m.a.l. to glass forming oxide melts due to their polymeric structure can be overcome by assuming statistical distribution of different structural groups in polymeric melts. On this basis the thermodynamic quantitative correlations between various borate and silicate formations in glass forming melts have been ...

Influence of chromium oxide on glass forming characteristics of iron phosphate glasses [PDF]

open access: possible, 2006
Iron phosphate glasses have been identified as an excellent candidate for immobilization of nuclear waste due to their excellent chemical durability, low melting temperatures and short melting times. In some instances, iron phosphate glasses may be more technically suitable and less expensive than the borosilicate glasses currently being the only ...

A machine learning approach to the estimation of the liquidus temperature of glass-forming oxide blends

Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 2003
Many properties of glasses and glass-forming liquids of oxide mixtures vary in a relatively simple and regular way with the oxide concentrations. In that respect, the liquidus temperature is an exception, which makes its prediction difficult: the surface to be estimated is fairly complex, so that usual regression methods involve a large number of ...

Crystallization of Zr Based Oxide with Glass Forming Additives for Gate Dielectric Applications

Integrated Ferroelectrics, 2003
In this study, Si, Al, and Bi have been investigated as a glass forming additive. Addition of glass forming materials is effective on stabilization of amorphous phase for Zr based films. The higher crystallization temperature results from the more additives.
