Corrosion phenomena in glass fibers and glass fiber reinforced thermosetting resins

Composites Science and Technology, 1985
Abstract Specific interactions between chemical environments and glass fibers cause stress corrosion cracking in the glass fiber surface. The interaction between fibers and diluted acids can be characterized readily in terms of a visible core/shell morphology that develops during the extraction process.

Fiber glass — An inorganic insulation

Electrical Engineering, 1939
In summing up the characteristics of fiber glass those which make it valuable for electrical insulation are: 1. Noninflammable and highly heat resistant. The operable temperature is limited only by the impregnant used, and there is a very definite temperature range between the operable temperature of organic fabrics and that of heat-resistant ...

Fibers of Glass

1999
Abstract The difference between glass rods and glass fibers is merely a matter of diameter. Anyone who can be trusted with a chemistry set can draw a fiber easily from a glass rod. Hold the two ends of a rod several inches long and put the middle in a hot flame. The heat softens the glass, melting the rigid solid into a thick, viscous
