Dicarboxylate‐modified anionic hairy cellulose nanocrystals exhibit a high selectivity for dysprosium(III) over neodymium(III). This selectivity arises from disordered dicarboxylate cellulose “hairs” that enable cooperative ionic coordination, hydrogen bonding, and strain‐induced conformational shrinkage.

Effect of glass-fiber rods on the ductile behaviour of reinforced concrete beams
Ductility can be defined as the “ability of material to undergo large deformations without rupture before failure”. The use of Glass-fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars instead of steel in reinforcing concrete structures is currently encouraged by many ...

Dense Nanofibrillar Collagen–Silica Hybrids with High Strength and ECM‐Mimetic Tissue Integration
Dense nanofibrillar collagen–silica hybrids are engineered by synchronizing collagen fibrillogenesis with silica condensation, producing printable scaffolds that unexpectedly approach native extracellular matrix organization and strength. These cell‐free constructs guide endogenous cell‐infiltration, enable localized matrix remodeling, and integrate ...

Fatigue behavior of glass fiber reinforced polymer dowels
An experimental investigation was carried out to evaluate the fatigue performance of two different glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) dowel systems. The diameter and spacing of the first GFRP dowel system was based on the current design standard for steel dowels and consisted of 1.5-inch diameter GFRP dowels spaced at 12 inches on center. The second

Bio‐Inspired Molecular Events in Poly(Ionic Liquids)
Originating from dipolar and polar inter‐ and intra‐chain interactions of the building blocks, the topologies and morphologies of poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) govern their nano‐ and micro‐processibility. Modulating the interactions of cation‐anion pairs with aliphatic dipolar components enables the tunability of properties, facilitated by “bottom‐up ...

Numerical study on the axial collapse of thin-walled columns
In order to investigate the damage characteristics of structural components under axial compression, thin-walled columns are chosen as a more straightforward construct due to the complex structural properties of composite materials, diverse fiber laying ...

Process for preparing solvent resistant, thermoplastic aromatic poly(imidesulfone) [PDF]
A process for preparing a thermoplastic poly(midesulfone) is disclosed. This resulting material has thermoplastic properties which are generally associated with polysulfones but not polyimides, and solvent resistant which is generally associated with ...

MAGTWIST: A compact magnetic rotary actuator, enabling smooth, stepless rotation, and on‐demand locking. Inspired by peristalsis, a soft polymer belt generates a traveling‐wave, enabling 270° rotation when heated. Cooling stiffens the belt, locking it in position and enabling it to withstand high loads.

Model to predict shrinkage and ejection forces of injection moulded tubular parts of short glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics [PDF]
This work presents a model to predict shrinkage and ejection forces for glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics of tubular geometry. This mathematical model was based in Jansen’s Model to predict shrinkage and residual stresses in fiber reinforced ...
